Need Media Centre Hardware Advice
Can anyone please help me?
I intend to setup a media centre to send dvd, video, sky tv and music around my home. However, I do not know what hardware / software to buy. I intended to use the d-link dsm 320 for receiving the signals in each room, but if there is anything better I would consider it. Ideally I want to have a PC holding all my music, video, dvd & photographs (about 1Tb of storage is required). I would also like to link my Sky + box to it. The PC would be kept in a cupboard out of the way and accessed via a remote keyboard, mouse & 19" LCD monitor. I also require a remote USB hub with DVD Rewriter, CD Rewriter & Multi-card reader. The USB hub and monitor can be connected to the PC via hidden 10m cables although I would prefer a cable free setup if this is possible. Can anyone recommend the hardware / software which I should buy? Thanks you for any help in advance.

It's a great idea and I wish you well...
But wireless transmissions in our house have been very difficult and very unsuccessful using D link gear. We now have a Buffalo air station which is the most reliable so far, but even then reception is difficult upstairs. At one point we told the supplier to take the whole lot away and give us quotes for proper cabling! It's a fairly ambitious project and I hope it works... |
