.....All you can do is step back in time

Kylie was right when she sang those words in 1990. The majority of my music purchases over the last 2 years came out between 1963-1989....mostly 70's R&B/Disco and early 80's pop. Such a shame I was born in '74 I'd love to have been in my prime going out Disco Dancin'
I feel sorry for the youth of today.....am I getting old?? They have such bland music/culture - no wonder they drink so much!!

I just 'aquired' Now That's What I Call Music 6,7,8,9 and 11. Took me back to my youth.

All the favourites are from back in the day as it were. All those nostalgic memories come flooding back when you play music from your younger years. That first school disco, that first crush, that first break up etc...

The music I "dig" was when before I was born to the age of about 10.....no memories - just damn good grooves

Yep! You're right. I totally got the gist of the thread wrong

Music from the past I dig and can dance to goes back before I was born in some cases but more from childhood/teens.

Stuff like Krush 'House Arrest' Nu Shooz 'I can't wait' Xpansions 'Move your body' Sounds Of Eden 'Every time I see the girl'.

I totally get where your coming from. Theres still a certain amount of charm in pop music, until Live Aid, when it all started to change. The 70's disco obsession with clubs and party drugs still had a sense of naivety that has long since given away to cynicism and hard faced pushy glamour.

Theres also the issue of music production and the way its being made these days. You listen to alot of chart/dance music these days and it feels punchy but strangely flat. I can only describe it as being hit by a 'flat' wall of sound.

You listen to those beautifully crafted disco/soul/lovers rock songs from roughly 1973-1984 and the sound is totally different, you can hear all the instruments and the way the producer has placed them in the mix, and of course the analogue warmth.

I struggle with most pop music today, because of its 'sameyness'. But,I guess Im just a 'crusty ole b*tch!' Except, I truly like some of the nu-disco bands that have emerged over the past 6 years or so. Again, they evoke a time when songwriting was matched with good sound production, and its also because they prefer to use old analogue recording equipment, where possible.

Im so glad there are those like you that are discovering such a truly beautiful time in music history.

I was watching a Top 50 countdown of 90s Europop classics earlier and it brought back so many memories. I totally want my childhood back...

Don't need your sympathy thank you, I'm able to enjoy music from now and from the past. I think that makes me the winner actually. You're missing out on so much and you don't even know it.

Again, I don't need your sympathy. The clubs I go to play cracking songs, a mixture of rock, indie and dance. Old and new. I can enjoy both.
