I feel sorry for the youth of today.....am I getting old?? They have such bland music/culture - no wonder they drink so much!!

I totally get where your coming from. Theres still a certain amount of charm in pop music, until Live Aid, when it all started to change. The 70's disco obsession with clubs and party drugs still had a sense of naivety that has long since given away to cynicism and hard faced pushy glamour.
Theres also the issue of music production and the way its being made these days. You listen to alot of chart/dance music these days and it feels punchy but strangely flat. I can only describe it as being hit by a 'flat' wall of sound.
You listen to those beautifully crafted disco/soul/lovers rock songs from roughly 1973-1984 and the sound is totally different, you can hear all the instruments and the way the producer has placed them in the mix, and of course the analogue warmth.
I struggle with most pop music today, because of its 'sameyness'. But,I guess Im just a 'crusty ole b*tch!' Except, I truly like some of the nu-disco bands that have emerged over the past 6 years or so. Again, they evoke a time when songwriting was matched with good sound production, and its also because they prefer to use old analogue recording equipment, where possible.
Im so glad there are those like you that are discovering such a truly beautiful time in music history.
