Neutral Milk Hotel - underrated band of this century?

I'm listening to Avery Island currently and there's so many variables & influences that Jeff Mangum expresses on this album alone. Not many people also know that the bands second album 'Aeroplane over the Sea' was written when Jeff had visionary hauntings of the WW2 concentration camps and a young girl who kept appearing in visions to him.

Such an underrated band, modern artists simply don't compare to anything put out by the Elephant 6.

You mean the last century, however I agree with the sentiment, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is one of my all time favourite albums and it sounds like it was recorded yesterday and not 14 years ago. Amazing band.

I heard so much praise for the in the aeroplane over the sea album so i gave it a listen through [just once] but didn't really like it... maybe i need to give it more of a chance...
I bought jeff buckleys album though as well last year which is apparantley amazing and i found that a bit boring

i'm not saying it's wrong not to like these albums but mostly when an album recieves loads of acclaim i enjoy it.

I'm not sure "underrated" is really the right term as they are generally very highly rated by critics, just about every "best albums of the 90s" list I've seen has 'Aeroplane over the Sea' in there somewhere.

But yeah, excellent band!
