I honestly can't believe these boys they just sold out an arena tour withing a couple of hours and also New Zealand and Australia ones within 3 mins. THEY ARE GOING TO BE HUGE. Bet Simon Cowell is loving this. And also I dont get all the jealousy that's going on with The Wanted they always seem to be slagging them off. -_-

I have just posted elsewhere that The Wanted say they are no competition but if that is the case why are they slagging them off so much. I like the Wanted but I am going off them. I think it is very bad form to slag off other acts in public

IMO TW are very worried the 1D boys are trouncing all over them It is very stupid the world is a big place and big enough for more than 2 boy bands

Yeahh but in all honesty TW did get No.2 on the US itunes with Glad you came whereas the 1D boys got to no.18 (without any promotions). If it wasn't for Glee I think they wouldve failed just like JLS.

Talentless little boyband that will easily be forgotten... and even if they are remembered, people will look back and say "Isn't that the boyband with no talent that came out of the x factor?"

They may be forgotten but definately not anytime soon. They'll be around for a long time If you think about it there fans are around their age 17-20 and a lot that are even younger.

Being remembered as a boyband isn't necessarily a good thing though... people usually look back and laugh at them. As for their fans, it's quite common that they are mentally retarded.

I think a visit to the priory is necessary.

Why because she's a fan of a certain group? There is room for all music.

I'm not a fan of Opera, Heavy Metal or Punk music but I don't criticise fans of these genres and call them retards!

Dedicated is the word you're looking for . My sister who's 17 is obsessed with them and she actually camped out to get their arena tour a couple of weeks back along with thousands of others. This is the kind of reaction they are causing I'm sure they wont be laughed at.

I am a grandmother and I like them and buy their music although I draw the line at going to their concerts but will buy the DVD. Whether that makes me a fan or not I don't know but I have never grown out of boy bands maybe because I didn't go through the obsession stage when I was young

I take issue with posters dissing boy band music. It is comparable to classical music snobs saying that only classical is REAL music and believe me I know several with that opinion.

Get over yourselves music is subjective so just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is cr&p!

I know some McFly fans who have been there from the beginning and still love their music 8 yrs later!

If it wasnt for Glee, the track might not have hit the top twenty but it certainly wouldn't have failed :s.. It has sold over 500,000 copies in 7(?) weeks and has consistently risen and risen.. 1D on the other hand debuted at #28 with really good sales and tanked to #50 the following week!!

There is more than enough room for two boybands to be successful in the UK/Worldwide.. The only thing similar between them is that it's five young lads, everything else is different so how can they be rivals?!

Possibly because some genre require slightly more than wandering aimlessly about the stage mostly looking to each other for the next "move" whilst "singing" out of tune and out of time to some lame generic backing track...

But as they say, each to their own, just don't big them up to be anything more than a bunch of talentless "pretty boys" that appeal mostly to young girls who couldn't give a f*** about music.

PS I didn't realise there were two threads on this musical desert...

Yeah i'm pretty sure without glee TW would be no where, whereas 1D achieved this without any promos what so ever.

One Direction have scored the highest debut for a UK act in the US singles chart for almost 14 years, with What Makes You Beautiful.
Their song entered the chart at 28, after selling 132,000 downloads in its first week, Nielsen SoundScan said.

It might be the highest debut in 14 years but it's not really that great of an achievement. Songs on the Billboard Hot 100 are known for taking time to climb the charts and some of the most successful songs start off low and gradually climb their way to #1, something One Direction probably won't do.

And, whilst I'm all for new acts doing well, they will need to change their sound if they are going to stay current. Their music may be good for their target audience but in 5 years time the screaming fans will be in their mid-20s and, unless One Direction change their music to be more mature, I can see people getting bored of them relatively quickly. It's also going to be hard because X Factor acts don't really change their style of music in future albums, and if they do, it's mostly for the worst (see The Club Is Alive...awful song! ).

They hadn't had any radio adds at the point they climbed the chart. The radio adds have been really high over the past week and as this counts towards the charts they will climb higher

Just because previous X factor acts haven't changed their style of music you can't say they won't. Actually that's not true anyway as Leona did with collide although that doesn't seem to have gone down very well

precisely why it is an achievement. most songs are known to start low and take time to climb the chart. but the boys were able to debut theirs that high!! and this high debut achieved without proper promo and extensive airplay yet, gosh, give the boys some credit!! Lolz!!

just because they didn't start so low in the charts doesn't mean it won't be successful either...

the promo proper and the radio airplay are just starting to get underway so both should help with the single climbing up again in the next few weeks...

they aren't rivals so TW shouldn't talk about them as the 1D boys never badmouthed them...

I'm sure they will be remembered with fondness by their fanbase... a part of growing up... five adorable boys they allowed into their young lives...

the older fans, the same...

True story.

Or multi million pound marketing targeting those who care little about music and know even less...

and you really believe that?

well i have news for you... 1D was discovered by their fans mostly through the social networking sites eg youtube, twitter, tumblr... the so-called marketing

became merely a response to the demand by their market/fans...

they landed the highest billboard debut for a uk act in more than a decade with no proper promo nor radio airplay yet...

on their first usa tour supporting a us boyband, the audience know and singalong the words to their songs taken from an album that hasn't been released yet til next week...

the so-called marketing is merely keeping up with the fans' demands who want more of these boys... even the official announcements from management became

merely official confirmation of news the fandom already knew/ speculated on...
