I have a HTC Sensation, and it came with it's own plug in charger.

Now I also have a cheap usb mains charger for my MP3 player, and wondered if this would be safe to use with the Mobile too, or if it could damage the phone?

I fit puts out a clean 5V DC voltage and has enough current to keep the HTC happy then it should be no problem. USB is a standard specification so as long as all the devices using it adhere to that spec then you should not have any problems mixing and matching.
