Jermaine Jones - The only one with serious vocal talent
Vauxhall Nova

I wish he'd stop singing all that Luther Vandross rubbish. The best performance of the series so far was him singing Make It Easy On Yourself. He should do more operatic soul that singers like Roy Hamilton specialized in.

I think Jermaine has a pretty good voice and one that stands out in terms of all the finalists, but I disagree with your statement about him being the only one with serious talent.

Do you mean from just the guys, or everyone? Either way surely Joshua has some pretty impressive chops as well, no?

He's got that old style Paul Robeson type vocal, but it won't sell in the real world.

Best he can hope for is a stage career - if he's lucky.

Jermaine's main problem is that he's charmless, and the mummy's boy thing won't play well.

OP, are you really suggesting the Joshua Ledet doesn't have a great voice? I reckon this guy will impress.

Also Jessica Sanchez, an incredibly fluid and exciting voice.

The rest are likeable, but don't impress me vocally, although Skylar can certainly command the stage.

I see no reason why with the recent sucess of Adele someone singing well written songs with a distinctive voice can't have a career. He hasn't got complete control of his voice, but the tone is just gorgeous.

As for Joshua Ledet. He has chops and much more control, but there's nothing especially beautiful about his voice to my ears. He's another one of these singers who starts doing runs where there is simply no need and he can't always get the notes either. It's just awfully self indulgent.

That mamma's boy is the biggest sub woofer I ever saw.

I quite like a bit of Barry White, and I have all of Will Downing's CDs, so I can appreciate the deeply deep, but the problem with a voice as deep as Jermaine's is it will tend to limit the range of songs he can tackle, leaving him sounding ponderous and shuttered compared to the others.

Being Idol, and the classic songs they tend to choose, I'm sure he'll have a moment one week with 'What A Wonderful World'. But is he the best singer in the competition? Nah.

He's got the best voice by far. The problem with these shows has always been that they're more interested in inoffensive bores who are good at a variety of things rather than someone who is great at one or two things. Matt Cardle would always beat Bryn Terfel or Otis Redding.

And Barry White is not the sort of music he should be doing. Though no doubt, no one will tell him.

I think he's middle of the pack at best. I do like his voice in the low register, but not so much higher up - I think he may even struggle this week, but if he stays, it will only be a matter of weeks because he seems limited to me.

I think he will struggle to make it into the top ten...

The only one with serious vocal talent?

Are you kidding?

To me, Jermaine isn't even all that good. His voice is unusual in this day and age, sure, but he's not properly trained in how to use it.

All the top 13 have talent! Yet to be wowed by Jermaine.

Jessica has the best voice, in my little old humble opinion. She's a bit dull though and I'd prefer Erika or Elise or Phillip or Joshua (get my drift) over any of the others.

The only one I don't actually like in the Top 13. (Or top 12, now.)

Looks like the only one with serious talent for criminal activity too! Lol

He obviously has a talent for generating a 'hit record', it's just that it's a criminal record, and for the wrong kind of hits.

He even had a release date too - it was as soon as the warrant expired.

He requested his case be heard by Diana Ross & the Supreme(s) court, but had to face the Idol judges instead.
