This question hasn't been asked for years and things must have changed radically.

Any recommendations/experience of handsets that incorporate call barring. I'm mainly interested in barring incoming nuisance calls but out going would be useful as well.
Ideally it should be capable of barring all calls from certain codes (i.e. premium rate stuff) and also individual numbers as well.

Ease of use is important. My supplier will bar calls if I ring them but that's long winded and I want local control.

Soeone mentioned a panasonic model which gives an engaged tone to unwanted callers but there must be many now.

I'm not clear what you are after. Initially, you appear to want to block outgoing calls but then say:"barring all calls from certain codes" and then mention incoming calls getting an engaged tone.

Actually I didn't know such phones existed but I've heard people talking about them. Obviously you need 'caller line identification' for it to work.

select 'call barring' and 'night mode' - then you can see what model has it, and go to your local store for the right model depending on price..

NOTE: double check the features, I saw some mistakes on the site..

'call barring' works by just giving a 'busy' tone,

'night mode' will make sure the phone does not ring at times you set - it will go to voice mail, so no worries!!

I bought a pair of Panasonic KX-TGG8522 about a month ago especially to use call barring for incoming calls so far its worked a treat I’ve added about six numbers mainly those pesky mid afternoon and evening telephone sales etc..

We have a Panasonic too, it is great for barring those nmbers that are bothersome, think its only limited to 20 numbers though, but its a great addition to the phone.

yes they are great phones.. It was more than ten years ago I did a lot of research on them - I think some of the newer models can also bar 'no number' and 'withheld' calls - the only problem with this, is some office exchanges do not transmit a number, so dont use it if you are expecting a call from a company or your office..

You can also add numbers to a group and then exempt that group from night mode, so friends and family can still phone you. I have this set up with night time defined as all the time, so only known numbers will make the phone ring out loud. Call barring of specific numbers was no use as all the sales calls identify themselves as 'international' or 'withheld'.

Just come across call barring by ring tone selection, sounds very straightforward:

Apparently this was possible years ago:

Microsoft released a 900MHz cordless phone back in late 1998 that had all the features you want, plus more. You could create a whitelist in the software and any phone call that wasn't in the whitelist wouldn't even ring the handset, but get diverted straight to voice mail. The phone supported voice dialing, multiple voice mailboxes, personalized rings and greetings based on the Caller-ID number. The software would automatically divert or block Caller-ID blocked incoming phone calls.

I've got the Panasonic KX-TG6621EB cordless phone, and it really is a God send, as was so fed up with nuisance calls, even though I'm registered with the TPS. It's just a case of putting the callers number in to the Caller Barred list, and it stops them getting through (All they hear is one ringback tone, followed by an number unobtainable tone)!

i think its wrong that we have to buy a phone to stop other people from bombarding us with junk calls.those calls should be made illegal. we shouldnt have to pay out to stop them.
a simpler option is to leave a message on your answer phone asking the caller to say who they are and if you want to speak to them you will call back. im planning on doing that. when ive worked out how to do it.

I have all my friends and family programmed in so if the number isn't recognised, international or withheld then I let it go to answer phone.

I bought my elderly father the twin BT6500 from BT earlier today. £20 off for BT customers (£49.99 instead of £69.99). I might just buy myself one too if it turns out to be as good as it looks/sounds.

I have used a couple of Panasonic DECT phones for a couple of years now and has performed its duty very well but unfortunately I hit the “Memory Full” limit last month so brought the Call Blocker that “dazpot” mention in post #15.

It’s been installed for about 3 weeks and I live in complete silence now, that is part from my laughing my socks off when the scammers ring.

How I am able to know they have rang is because I have a separate phone on an extension up line from the call blocker with caller display that rings once but I don’t hear this because the ringer is off. All genuine callers can get through with no problems.

The only thing that’s annoying is I noticed today that Amazon are selling the call blocker for £10 less this month but that’s life and although not as sophisticated as the TrueCall unit it almost on par and cost a great deal less.

Most all of our telephone providers all have an internet portal to which the customer can log in. Some call this call manager or phone central or whatever. Its basically a webpage or an app/program in which you can view/monitor all call histories, dialed, missed, answered etc. you can also block numbers and activate features like anonymous call reject, create block lists, set up simultaneous ring (several numbers are called when your home phone rings, so you can answer on your mobile or a second line) you can set the phone to allow calls during certain hours only, or set it so that only certain numbers will get through at certain times.
It allows you to listen to your voicemails and save them as Mp3 or WAV, and even (for a fee) record calls - again this can be set so that only calls from certain numbers are recorded. It also allows you to set a customized "your call is being recorded" message that the caller hears when you answer or during ringing.
Having seen this product I am assuming that interactive home phone portals are not common in the UK?
I can see the product becoming redundant as interactive apps and web portals for handling home phone calls take over.
