Android Market is now Google Play

Basically:

Android Market, Google Videos and Film Rentals are now known as 'Google Play'. The new brand will unify the three services. Updates will be available to Android 2.2+ users within the next few days

Thought this was a bad early April Fool's joke to begin with, as it sounds like a dreadful name. I've done a bit more reading about it and the name has grown on me a little bit, but not much. "grab it from Android Market" just sounds so much better than "get it from Google Play"

...is the second L a typo?!?

Not really liking the name change that much!

I find Android to be a far more likeable, user-friendly and trustworthy brand than Google, which I've come to associate with bullshit.

Still really annoying how you can't add a DEBIT card to your account, meaning you can only buy apps/films/books etc if you have a visa or master CREDIT card.....sort it out!!!!

That's a good point actually. I hadn't even thought how it's basically changing a brand. Think everyone's opinion of Google is probably declining so may have some impact.

WTF. This is like Apple randomly renaming iTunes to Apple Live or something....completely stupid and Google Play doesn't even fit with all the apps/services that it provides...

You don't play a book or some apps so why have they done this? So lame

Not dissimilar to the iTunes Store selling films and TV shows though.

Wrong.....I use my debit card, no problems.

As for the name change....DOES IT REALLY MATTER? A rose by any other name etc.........

Yes but at least those 'play'.....Google Play doesn't really match or represent all the services that the Android Market actually provides....it just seems bizarre....

I could have understand a name change to Google Market/G-Store or something similar, but Google Play sounds really lame and the Play Store even worse. It reminds me of Google Buzz, Google Wave etc....and look how they turned out.

Who cares what they call it as long as it has decent apps

The Play name, I think what Google is trying to say that it is accessible now.. like I want to play music now... pressing the play button for example

Playing a book doesn't sound right, but I guess it means you can get the book now and quick.. That's what I think the branding is all about.
