JVC LCD TV - HDMI Problem
I have a JVC LCD TV model no LT-26DA8BJ.
I’ve tried connecting a Samsung DVD player to it by HDMI and all I get is the blue screen - no picture or sound. I also have tried connecting my laptop by HDMI and I have the same problem - no picture or sound. Please can you advise me how I can get the HDMI connectivity to work. Thanks |

Are you selecting the correct input?, HDMI inputs don't auto-switch like scarts, you need to manually select the input or source using the TVs remote.
Have you tried a different HDMI lead? |

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I've selected the correct input and tried a different HDMI lead. |

As far as I can find out the TV is HD Ready rather than Full HD. This may or may not be significant. But it could mean the TV cannot handle certain video input settings via HDMI.
I assume the DVD has SCART as well as HDMI? If so use that initially and see if you can get an image from the player. If that works go into the menus and see if there is a section to set the HDMI output. If it is set to 1080p at the moment then that might be the problem. Try setting it to the lowest available, likely to be 576i, and see if the HDMI now works. If it does try the other options one at a time. You might find the TV can only accept up to 1080i. Also play a disk for several minutes at 576 which is standard DVD resolution to get an idea of how the TV upscales the image. Then play the same section of disk at each of the other settings to see if the image quality gets better or worse. Basically at 576 output the TV is doing all the scaling and at the others the DVD player is also doing some scaling. This test procedure lets you work out which device is better at scaling. |

Unfortunately the DVD player only has a HDMI connection therefore I cannot try your suggestions. |

Have a look on the back of the player and see if it has a set of phono sockets for stereo audio and composite video. If it does then they can be connected either to a similar set of sockets on the back of the TV or via a SCART adapter. |

Tesco sold a few different brands of HDMI only DVD players a while back , yes I know it seems a odd concept but they were sold as"upscaling" DVD players . Quite why someone would want a low resolution DVD player instead of a bluray player is beyond me , but at the time BD players were about £160 minimum and DVD was circa £40 so that's how they were marketed !

It is pobbile that the HDMI ports need to be reset by an authorised JVC approved agent

cbram1970 is correct. The most common cause of loss of HDMI on JVC's is corruption of the sets eeprom. The set needs to be returned to the factory settings or as JVC call it "shipping condition"
The safest way to do this is by use of a special service remote which your local JVC dealer would have, but on some models it can be done from the service menu. It's risky but if you want to try it I've PM'd the details. |
