Madonna's manager Guy Oseary has just confirmed that there will be no promo tour for the album MDNA. He tweeted -
No MDNA promo tour...
there is no time for promo tour.. We are in full on tour mode.. Need to get it ll together.. working on other ideas..

This is without a doubt The worst Madonna album era so far. Hard Candy is a masterpiece compared to this era. Awful promotion, Singles flopping No Promo tour. Really disappointed. So much for a massive comeback album...

I think we all knew that really. It is baffling though but at least she's guaranteed a number 1 album slot in several countries because of the Superbowl itunes promotion. Shame though.

that`s bad in all honesty, what on earth is her team thinking? its like the music is now secondary to the tour and less important. i am disappointed by this to be honest and it doesn't make much sense considering the effort she put into promoting w.e.

It was inevitable really. It's impossible for her to do a promo tour with a world tour so close by. Shame how she put her heart and soul into that crap film though and seems to use her music as a way to provide material for the tour

I don't get what is so bad about it.

She did Superbowl which was massive. She partly promoted the album in January anyway when asked about it on all the interviews for W.E. and she is going into a huge world tour.

Do rememeber she has four kids to care for on top of all this! She isn't in her 20s/30s anymore.

I buy Cyndi Lauper, Kate Bush, Grace Jones and Blondie's latest albums, and I'll do the same with Madonna as long as she continues to put stuff out; I don't care whether she's commercially successful or not anymore. But whilst we're on the subject, neither will I hold my breath for anyone to come remotely near to beating her track record anytime soon

I am actually a bit gutted that we wont have her promoting the MDNA album with performances etc.

I mean she says she believes in the album...maybe that is that hmmm.

But anyway at least we know that she will have strong first week sales regardless and we will look at it as that. Just a shame the attention she put into Hard Candy promo in comparison to this really.

Ah well. The album first and foremost is what matters to me anyway

I have said this before it is about time Madonna got shot of Guy Oseary. A truth teller he is not.

Doing the radio 1 big weekend would have been great promotion last time they gave her a BBC3 slot and broadcast her set live. Yes the tour has started by then but she is free on Saturday 23rd June.

OK maybe that is a non-starter, but do a show in London on launch week and give radio 1 aload of tickets to give away as long as radio 1 a-list her next 3 singles with x amounts of plays of each.

Yes, and there has been loads of info about MDNA released anyway. Most people who want it know when to get it! They will advertise it quite strongly I suspect. Her name is enough to secure sufficient sales, even if the album doesn't sell 10 million it will still sell 5 million minimum.


Yes I buy ALL artists I like albums, regardless of whether they sell the tons they did in the past. There will always be enough interest in Madonna to keep her making music.

This may or may not be cynical, but I can't help feeling there's a gleeful, self-congratulatorily 'subversive' Radio 1 culture of NOT playlisting her singles. They've got enough past form for it with other 'massive' artists.

so no "promo tour" but sounds like they are planning something surely for album release!

i think that is over optimistic in all honesty. hard candy was shy of 4 million with much more promotion. it will have a good first week and it really does depend on how strong the final album will be. if she is too busy to promote the album, then will ggw be the last video? that would be shocking. she launched the last album on the back of a worldwide hit, whereas, gmayl is a moderate worldwide hit with no longevity whatsoever. so the best she can hope for realistically is matching hard candy`s success.

MDNA will sell on her name and hype and fanbase combined...that will surely prove a lot too for us fans too!

I mean with just a Super Bowl massive Half Time show she pretty much allowed herself to break and set a new itunes record for the album already....so already it can be viewed as a success in those respects.

Musically it will be so layered so that will be a success. And critically it has recieved a lot of acclaim thus far...so yeah with the hype, the acclaim, the fanbase i reckon MDNA will match Hard Candys sales in final figures what with song selected for promo/ videos filmed perhaps and her tour will be all over the press i reckon that will definitely ice it

This is why Britney's Femme fatale Album didnt do aswel they focus on the Tour rather then Promoting the album THEN focus on the tour. Why not Start the tour in september?

If Madonna REALLY had passion for this album she would promote, im gutted.

That is what it looks like really...Femme Fatale sold over a million worldwide name alone tbh. Which is solid but again....it is so overlooked and not only one of her best ever albums IMO but so overlooked sadly.

Whereas this time sure Madonna doesnt really have anything to "prove" but at the same time....we all want ehr to flaunt her stuff and really make the most of this album.

But then again...maybe she will in different areas

Erm....depends really what THEY call promo tour.

What i think of as a promo tour is what we have had since the Music album really.

DOnt Tell Me Concerts and interviews

American Life Promo Tour (Wossy exclusive, acoustic sessions)

Confessions (Club sets, Parkinson exclusive etc)

Candy Shop (Radio 1 Big Weekend)

But it doesnt mean "no TV" as they may consider doing certain TV/radio spots perhaps when they plan it.

I mean i know it was 19 years since her last album...but grace jones promoted Hurricane in select interviews and had a magnificent Wossy exclusive show like M too. Which helped gain attention.

But in that same breath...Madonna doesnt "need" to do TV promo spots necessarily as she is pretty much the biggest artist in the world based on her longevity/impact/iconography. And pretty much the entire fanbase knows MDNA is out on March 26th anyway.

I just hope Wild isnt the first and last true single for the album...especially after so much promise to showcase the album too!

yes, i appreciate that. however, will that guarantee any longevity in terms of ongoing sales? i am not so sure. she needs a hit single and to achieve that people need to see her. radio dropped gmayl within a fortnight and despite video plays the song still underperformed.

if she wanted to capitalise on her superbowl performance and if that was going to be the only physical album promotion. then they should have issued the album straight away. casual buyers may have been inclined to buy the album during that week, but over a month later is a big ask.

i can appreciate the sheer gravity of the superbowl performance and the length of time it took her to perfect. it must have been truly draining physically and emotionally. also, now she has to prepare for the tour, which will be even more draining. however, i do think not releasing the album straight away was probably a big oversight.

You do realize that everyone who has bought a ticket to her tour has the opportunity to get a copy of MDNA, don't you? The tour is sold out so that's a lot of copies if all ticket buyers choose to get their copy. It counts towards the chart because you don't get it automatically with your ticket but have to click on a link to say you want it. So the tour has the potential to sell tons of albums to casual fans who bought tickets to see her older hits on tour.

Yes, to me a promo tour means when she does concerts in small venues. It doesn't mean she won't do a few tv shows with a performance. To me those promo tours are overrated. I've always thought it silly to do a concert where only the privileged few who win some kind of contest on her website or through a radio station can get tickets.

i said casual buyers, not casual fans. however. that still depends on whether these dates were bought up by casual fans. my bet is that many people attending will be hardcore fans who will buy the album regardless. besides, one person can buy multiple tickets to attend in groups, not too mention tickets bought by on-line touts. what figures are we talking exactly in terms of tickets sold?

Yeah i would love to think she will do select TV spots like she used to do for example when True Blue was out and Like A Prayer and Erotica. You know like select TV interviews here and there, a few performances and that would give a flavour for the era.

I mean Madonna on Wossy again would be massive enough for the UK and a Radio 1 interview...and that would do it

Plus gregg james on Radio 1 always plays an album track of contending albums on the charts and the number 1 albums of the week on Wednesdays anyway

I still am optimistic we will have some things planned definitely I mean heck MDNA deserves a bit of promo...if not a tour in itself of course then just select places. Like the ones aforementioned.

It seems to me if you're not a fan of someone, why would you buy their album? At past Madonna concerts I've been to there are a lot of people there who are fans of her older albums, but they haven't bought the recent album. I always hear people complaining that she does too many new songs they don't know because they haven't bought the album. I think hardcore fans tend to always buy the album, but there are a lot of casual fans who will buy a ticket to see a concert because they want to hear older hits, but don't buy the latest album. I go to concerts all the time by people whom I like some of their older songs but I haven't bought their most recent album.

to be fair to her, people should know what to expect from her tours by now. she is always heavy on the latest material and word should have definitely got around by now in all honesty. i pre-ordered the album, but i wont be going to the tour. that is purely down to the venue being too large and i am gutted to be honest.

it really doesn't bother my if the album tanks, as long as i enjoy my purchase. however, if the album is really good and it under-performs due to poor promotion. well that is actually quite sad.

It's is a shame that she does such large venues here. It kind of ruins the experience. In the US she does arenas of around 15,000 which makes for a much better experience. My parents live in the US so I am combining a visit to see them with a Madonna concert.
