Suggestions for a low cost tablet !!!
..I'm looking for a 10 inch low cost tablet just for sitting in my archchair to simply browse - Youtube / eBay / email / read news(papers) / Forums (like this one) / BBC iPlayer / (must support Flash) -
- no film viewing or such - no music - just everyday BROWSING... I recently tried a Toshiba AT100 (Thrive) and was impressed but too much money for what I want....(don't really need all the i/o connections that it supported...) Any Suggestions most welcome.... |

Currys are currently selling refurbished Advent Vega's with a 6 month warrenty on their eBay store
For its price, I think that its accepted as the best spec Android Tablet on the market with a large and active community. There are even ICS custom ROM's available for it. |

I don't know the Toshiba AT100 but it is not well reviewed, although mostly the criticism seems to be it's expensive for what it is. Looking at it it really does seem very overpriced and sluggish.
The Advent Vega seems good value for £130. It won't devalue that much which might be important if an upgrade to something super-swish is desired in a year. I haven't used a Vega though. It also seems that it isn't that great out-of-the-box, it needs to have a custom firmware installed (operating system), this is free but technical. |

...where have you seen it reviewed as 'sluggish'... surely it's got the same processor as the majority of Android tablets ? Also for £180 (instead of new over £300) must be seen as a 'reasonable' price..?? Quote:

Its worth considering an Archos 80 G9 GPS tablet at £179 or so.
The 4/3 aspect ratio makes it feel more 9"+ and methinks it now has a free upgrade to Android 4.0. |

I just purchased the Advent Vega for £110 from Dixons discount store at Chesterfield. Wish I hadn't now - it's bad! Maybe it's because I am used to the fluidity of an iPhone, but it's really basic. I'll be returning it tomorrow!

I too have taken the plunge on the Advent Vega, as usual alcohol helped easy my doubts. Been wanting one ever since Dixons dropped them to £117 refurb, but I ummed and arred and was gonna wait till it went down.
I also bought a keyboard case too, I will be taking the option of a custom ROM, ICS with Chrome browser hopefully |

So I took the Advent Vega back - no questions asked. I assume they have a lot returned. I went into Currys afterwards and had another look at the Playbook - I think a 7-8" tablet is more suited to myself. I will wait for the Playbook to drop when the Playbook2 appears. Either that, or I will be waiting for the rumoured iPad mini or Google tablet.

I've had an Advent Vega for a long while. Is it great? No. Do I want to replace it? Yes. I want to replace it, but I need to consider my sister's example. |

Can someone point me in the direction of straight forward guidance as to how to upgrade the ROM, please.

Can you really just take a tablet back to the store for no other reason than you don't like it.? I bought an Arnova 10 G2 yesterday and am finding it very complicated. My son has an Ipad 2 and whilst I know it's unfair to compare because of the price difference, I am wishing I splashed out a little more.
