Melanie C - Underrated?
I think so. I Just got back from her gig in Brighton and she was amazing. She has such strong vocals and really got the crowd going. She's funny too, at one point in-between songs she was mentioning requests and someone shouted "WANABE!" and she jokingly said "Get out".
I've always had a soft spot for Mel, out of all the Spice Girls I think her solo music is by far the best. She looks incredible for 38 too ![]() Does anyone agree? |

![]() I like some of her songs like Northern Star, Don't Need This, Your Mistake , Never Be the Same Again (collab), When you're gone (collab) |

She's always been hailed as the most talented of the Spice Girls and the one who would have a successful solo career so she's hardly underrated
- personally, I think she's talented and could have been more successful with her solo career if she hadn't been on that ego trip and done a George Michael on us after Northern Star...She's never been my favorite though, her voice tends to grate on me after a while and always preferred Emma or Geri. And what is it with this 'she looks incredible for 38'?? - You know there's not an expiry date for those of us who aren't not in our teens or 20's anymore...We don't turn into decays or ugly fits once we go beyond 30!? Just so you know as you'll be there one day too![]()

Totally, I'm a huge fan. I never really cared for the Spice Girls that much but I fell in love with her when Northern Star came out. I like her because her style is more edgy with a rock side. I've never liked any of the other Spice Girls' solo albums. I guess her voice is an acquired taste but I love it.
I'm not sure what is meant when someone said she went on an ego trip after Northern Star. She was suffering from depression and needed some time off. But I do think Reason was not her best album. Her best and most undeappreciated album was Beautiful Intentions. The Sea has some good tracks, but it's not as good as BI. I actually really love her new track Too Soon which is on her live DVD. I think it's better than anything on the Sea. I wish it had been on the album or a single. |

I agree Too Soon is a great song, I wasn't even aware it existed until the show!
She said afterwards something along the lines of "It's fookin' hard to sing that one!"... She does seem to love the F word

very under rated. her real strength is her live performances. it's a shame there isn't more shows on TV where she can showcase that and her material. there isnt a shortage of people that want her to come on for interview to talk about SG though

She's a very outspoken person and perhaps that can easily be seen as arrogance but I've always had a the feeling she takes herself quite seriously. And you're right, saying she's underappreciated as opposed to being underrated. |

Her past two albums, This Time & The Sea, have been fantastic and its a big shame the UK seems to ignore her now.

If she wasn't assosiated with the Spice Girls she would be up there with Cher, Madonna, Mariah, Whitney, and Doris Day.

She had two number one hits back in 2000,
"Never Be The Same Again" and "I Turn To You" http://www.justtophits.co.uk/every-u...e-of-2000.html She had some good hit singles - Rock, R & B, Dance - jack of all trades, really |

She could be huge her current album had such high praise I just think perhaps sh could've done with slightly better timing on some of her projects or maybe touring with an album before it's release so that those who go to see her are more inclined to buy it as her shows do pretty well.
How much has the new album sold? |

Tempted to buy The Sea!
She's a great singer, really impressive. She's put her Spice Girls days behind her and found her own sound. Next Best Superstar is my fave!

The Sea is a brilliant album, my third favourite after Northern Star and Beautiful Intentions. Reason and This Time have some great songs, but as albums never really clicked for me. Most of the b-sides from the Reason era are better than the album tracks (Love To You, Living Without You, I Love You Without Trying - They all have similar titles but are very good songs) and the only song Mel played the other night from This Time was a b-side too!
But yeah, The Sea is well worth checking out! |

I seem to remember that there were rumours of her getting an X Factor judging role - I think that would really boost her solo career. Too Soon is a brilliant song, The Sea is a brilliant album.

But glad she's still going musically and hasn't given it up since being dropped by her record label. She set up her own label (Red Girl records) and releases through that - respect to her for that. |

I only ever liked that one she did with Bryan Adams.
She keeps struggling on with a solo career only her diehard fans are bothered about. But she's rich enough to spend what she really earned big with (Spice Girls) to play about with her own stuff so if she enjoys it why not. |

She's too old (in music terms obviously not in life terms). |

Calm down lol they were only paying her a compliment. She DOES look great for 38 and there's nothing wrong with saying so.

Melanie C and Jason Donovan have been announced as judges for part of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar talent search. The former Spice Girls singer and the musical theatre star will assist Lloyd Webber at callbacks for the ITV show, which begin today (March 12) and are due to continue for three days. The trio will whittle down the remaining hopefuls to a final 40 and continue to judge them at a subsequent "intensive training" session. |

I love Mel C. I think The Sea is her best album, I was very impressed. Beautiful Intentions will always be a favourite too.
It's a shame she's overlooked though. But i suppose she experienced more success with the SG then many other artists ever will, so i'm sure she's more than happy to be plodding along as she is. I'd love to see her live, I pre-ordered her 'Sea' DVD. I can't wait to watch it
