Kindle problem !!! Help !!

Anyone know how to solve this. Boss asked me to purchase several books for him through Amazon to go directly onto his kindle. I just hooked the Kindle up to the PC, purchased the books, where I got a message saying they had been wirelessly transferred onto kindle, but they are not there !!

Was my mistake that it was not enough to just attach the kindle to the PC. Shoudl I have had an active wifi connection near by as well to allow the transfer to happen.

if so, what do I do now. !!! Books have been purchased and paid for, yet are not on the kindle. How do I get them on the kindle.

Did I mention I hate Kindles, and if he ever asks me again I will throw it at him.

Pleading for some techno wizard to assist.

Tell your boss he's a lazy sod and he should do such things for himself.

It may be obvious but have you tried just syncing the Kindle. Press menu then "Sync & Check for Items"?

Your mistake was in not reading the instrructions - you don't "connect it to a PC", you connect it independently via WiFi to the Internet - then items automatically appear as you purchase them (assuming you use the correct account of course).

You can 'connect to a PC', but you then have to manually download and transfer the books which is FAR more complicated.

As LostFool said, simply connect the Kindle via WiFi, select Menu/Sync & Check for items - and the books will be listed there, you can then select and download them. You can't 'lose' Kindle books, they are stored on Amazon's servers, and can be redownloaded without cost at any time.

As an aside question...I have a kindle and not sure I am turning it off right..as when I go to use it the power has gone right down.

I am sliding the power button til the screen goes dark..is that enough?

^^^ yes, you turned it off if the screen goes blank. I usually just put it to sleep. The screen then has a picture on it with an instruction to slide the power button to turn it on. It still consumes some power though.

I also hold the button until the screen goes blank, although I have heard advice that it is sufficient to go to the screensaver.

As you are losing power make sure that your wifi connection is off. I only have mine on if I am actually downloading books.

Just leave it on the screensaver. I often leave mine for months like that. When you leave it in that state it isn't really using any resources unless it is e.g. indexing. Switching it off (blank screen) consumes more resources when you switch it on than if you leave it on the screensaver.

I never turn mine off either - even when I'm on a plane. The only need for that power switch is to do a reboot in the event of a crash.

the books must have been purchased on an Amazon acccount. There will be records of the transactions. Just call Amazon's helpline .......

There will be an application on the computer called "My Kindle" - this is where the books will be.

Connect the Kindle to the PC with the cable; open "My Kindle"; go to "Manage My Kindle", and the books will be there. Select the book you want, and there will be an "Action" box next to it, select "Transfer to (Kindle's name)", and the books will then be on the Kindle's index.

This is how I have to do it at home, as I have no wifi here.

Hope this helps.

Or if its a 3G Kindle (the OP doesn't say), its even easier. Just switch wireless on via the Menu button.

But what sort of boss expects employees to do this sort of personal stuff. You don't happen to work for Prince Charles, do you?

OK, OP, hopefully you've got it sorted now, but two things...

1) Did you actually buy them via his Kindle Account ?

2) If yes, then you simply need to go to the Home Page (press home), theen Press Menu, then select 'Turn Wireless On' and hopefully, they'll pop up onto screen shortly.

But I agree with everyone above, tell him to order his own books in future...

HI..........OP here... and hysterical I was at the time !!! Went on bended knee to IT Department who sorted it out today.

Now..............my mistake originally was assuming all I had to do was connect the damn thing via a USB cable to the PC and they would transfer that way.

However.....looking at Amazon again, there IS an option where you can choose to transfer your books this way and it turns off the wireless option and proceeds to do it this way for you !!!

Has anyone done this and does it work............all is calm at the moment, but I am looking ahead to the next time the flipping thing is hurled at me to do the downloading !
