Hi

I have a week old Sharp LCD TV.

(think its just a vestel clone. I would normally buy a better make but its only for bedroom and I got such a good bargain on it that I thought it would do)

Was perfectly happy with it, until last night it started making high pitch squealing sound. Not contstant but kind of off / on as the picture changes. Especially after the set has been on for about half an hour or so.

Ive spoken to the shop and they will change it for me, but what would make a tv do such a thing?

would a replacement do the same thing?

What's the model number? There were a number of Sharp models suffering from this over a year ago. The most affected model for me was the LCxxLE600 (For xx substitute the screensize)

The cure was to download a file from Sharps website and update the sets software using a USB stick.

I can't find anything on the internet relating to this problem with this model.

Nothing on the technical website so I would get it replaced. Not seen this chassis yet and yes, it is a Vestel.

thanks for checking.

I work in the same shop I got it from, so they will hopefully look after me. they have got a replacement on order.

Funny how it was fine for a week, and all of a sudden started doing it.

I feel a bit like I'm over-reacting - but as it's in the bedroom, I often listen at low volume at night, and it becomes very distracting!

Not over-reacting at all - Doesn't matter what the badge says, how much you paid, where you got it from or where it is viewed, it should work to the best of it's ability without fault.

I would imagine the noise is from either the PSU or Inverter, and it comes and goes as the picture changes because the backlights are dimming - this alters the operation of botht he PSU and the Inverter.

would a replacement do the same thing?
It depends if it's a design fault on that specific model, or just a random faulty unit.

i went in this morning and asked if i could pay the extra and have a better make tv, so now im going to get a panasonic 32" tv.

This would be a better quality set than the 32" sharp, which i now know is vestle, wouldnt it?

Don't think you can go far wrong with a Panasonic, should be a noticable improvement over the Sharp. Happy viewing.

after another night of tinitus style viewing, i cant wait for my panny to arrive.

I was never happy with the picture on the sharp anyway.

Bright colours such as red & pink show up really extremely and do not look realistic. No matter how much i adjusted the settings.

Panny also comes with a free 5yr guarantee, and freeview hd i think. so it should serve me well for a number of years.

Definately worth paying the extra, and ive learnt that you get what you pay for!
