I am in a position where I am now able to upgrade my current handset.

At the moment I have a HTC Desire. The only reason I want to upgrade is the fact that the internal memory on the Desire is far too low.

Can anybody suggest a decent handset which would have a bigger internal memory?

Thanks.

You can move apps from internal memory to the SD card, using an app called apps2sd.

However if you want a phone with more internal memory, then you will have a look on the net. However I would have though all phones released after the Desire will probably have more memory. Phones like the samsung galaxy S2, HTC sensation etc.

If the only reason you are upgrading is the lack of memory, have you considered rooting and using an a2sd that uses a partition on your SD card as internal memory?

It's not an option for everyone but if you think this may be something to consider have a look on the XDA forums for more details/guidance.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

I have used App2SD, but there is still a load of apps that can't be moved over to the SD card. The Maps app, for example.

Where are the XDA forums you mention?

Google xda developers and look for the HTC desire forum. Very helpful bunch and you'll be flashing custom roms in no time!

I too had a desire and got fed up with the limited memory. Even though i am still in contract I bought a new HTC Rhyme from Ebay. It makes a huge difference having 4gb phone memory instead of 500mb.

If you're looking to make the most out of the phone and apply a very effective Apps2SD solution, your best bet would be reading up on custom ROMs, the dos and don'ts... Get acquainted to a ROM you like, and then Apps2SD matches the ROM. (If the ROM is popular, there's no doubt there will be a solution, probably mentioned countless times in its own thread).

If you cannot be bothered at all and can hardly even be bothered with a file manager, aim for the Galaxy S II. It's overkill in the best way possible.

Be careful with the custom roms. Always do a full backup!

App2Sd does not require root. Therefore suggesting the OP uses a custom rom isnt going to help. The amount of RAM he has to play with is fixed - no matter what rom he uses.

If the issue is the limited amount of RAM, then he has two solutions. One is to get another phone, the other is to get a bigger micro SD card and transfer his apps from RAM to SD card.

My Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with 16GB [13.5GB really] internal memory. This can be extended by 32GB via the MicroSD slot as well.

Thanks for all the feedback.

I was going to go for the Samsung Galaxy SII, but I have seen on the Web that HTC are due to launch a couple of new handsets at the start of April, so might hang on for a couple of weeks.

The new HTC One S looks promising.

I didn't say Apps2SD requires root. Froyo Apps2SD doesn't require root, no... However other Apps2SD solutions are better than that and they do. With Froyo Apps2SD, you will still fill internal storage quickly. To use better Apps2SD solutions, e.g. DT A2SD, you will need root, to use Simple2SD, you will need CM7. Go figure. On top of that, I didn't even mention RAM...
