Connect Mac to New TV
Hi All
Whenever I struggle with tech, I always think of you wonderful people... Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I tried asking Currys for help but they've nothing on you, intact the fella in the shop was 'denser' than I when it comes to this sort of thing, I digress. I bought an LG 42LW450U and I want to connect my Macbook (Aluminium Late 2008). Previously I have connected it to the old TV via a mini DVI - HDMI and a 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Audio Cable. This TV allows both connections but I can't select them both at the same time as I did with me old TV, so as it stand I can only have visual or audio coming through the TV... Any ideas on how I go about doing what I want to do? Thank You in advance for all/any help. It is appreciated. |

Unless you TV has the option of HDMI video and sound via 3.5mm jack then you're stuffed - however, it's VERY usual for this to be an option, but only for one specific HDMI socket. You need to consult the TV instructions to find which socket it is, and how you select external audio (assuming it will).

Looking at the manual you use a DVI to HDMI lead for the video and although not 100% clear it looks like either of the two HDMI sockets on the back of the set can be used. For audio you need a 3.5mm Jack to 3.5mm Jack lead from the headphone out on the Mac to the socket labelled "(RGB/DVI) Audio in" Which is above the rest of the sockets next to the digital optical out.
You mention a jack to twin phono lead. I suspect that you were connecting the phonos to the AV2 in sockets next to the HDMI sockets? That would explain why you only got sound or video but never both as they are two separate inputs. |
