Why do so many Samsung clamshells look the same? It as one thing that put me off getting one.

I've always used Nokia, their service point network offers excellent warranty repairs* and the look, menu structure and intuitive nature of the phone makes them always a pleasure to use. I send alot texts and some phones are so slow to write a message and send it.

*Warranty repairs can be carried out at any approved nokia service point around the UK. Even if you dont have the original receipt your phone can still be repaired for free up to 15 months from date of manufacture or if you do have the receipt up to 12 months after purchase.

To find out date of manufacture type *#92702689# and scroll down until you see made. Eg: 012004 = january 2004.

Motorola.
The only problems i've had with my V500 were caused by Orange and not Motorola.

My word Dan, you've got 8Mb ADSL and a Sony Ericsson Z1010! What's your secret to obtaining these 'Grails'?

Surprised Sony Ericsson haven't done as well. People just won't let go of their Nokias! (Well actually it seems they continually drop them!)

See my post in the 'K750i' thread to see how great SE are. If I were any rival I'd really get my finger out because the new phones look amazing.

I'm a complete Sony Ericsson convert, have been since the t68 came out and have happily gone though 4 SE handsets since then (and already planning on the k750i when it comes out).

Samsungs don't seem to be too bad, my main annoyance with them is lack of features compared to the others. Reliability has been mentioned in here, I've found customers handsets to be fine, if they last the 1st week generally there are no problems, but when they break, boy do they break properly!

As for nokia's.... well you're paying for the badge arn't you.

Completely misplaced loyalties there. Nokia is incredibly plain and boring on a large amount of their phones (1 in 3 perhaps). They do do great phones but they get away with charging over the odds for pathetic handsets. Sony Ericsson have released many new and imaginative phones before and when they release a boring clone they make no secret of it.
Having had used many phones from both manufacturer SE win hands down.

Nokia 'phone menus tend to stick to the same format, no matter what model you buy. Easy to navigate.

With a couple of exceptions excellent build quality and they feel solid.

I agree about the menu's that they are easy to use. Compared to other phones which you dont have a clue how to work. So Nokia win in that departement.

Nokia menus are great. The folder thing drives me up the wall though. A small reshuffle wouldn't do any harm.
SE and Samsung have good menus too but Motorolla's is a pain in terms of wanting to get around quickly.

I've had a

Maxon MN1 (Image) on Vodafone.

Mitsubishi Trium Mars (Image)

Nokia 3210 on BT Cellnet

Nokia 3330 on BT Cellnet/o2

Nokia 3650 on o2

Nokia 6820 on o2

and have just today put in an upgrade to a Sony Ericsson k700i. Not really an upgrade but I needed a new phone and this one was free. The Nokia 3650 with its weird keypad has to have been my favourite.

Nokia has been my favourite so far, and the family all have Nokia phones now. So simple and easy to use, with logical layouts and menus.

Had a few Nokias in the past but then Nokia's Q&A and GUI designs seemed to become more lacklustre as they grew larger.

Moved to Sony Ericsson with the T68i being my first phone and haven't looked back since. Been the proud owner of a T610, K700, P910 and now the K750.

I voted Nokia.

I've just got a new phone - a Sony Ericsson k750i and have had it for about a week.

I'm very impressed, having owned only Nokias before but there are a few niggly things which I miss about having a Nokia.

The text messaging seems to be much easier with a Nokia - on my SE it is difficult to know how many characters you have left.

On my old Nokia, the calendar functionality was about 10x better than on the SE. I can't add recurrence to calendar items easily and can't assign a priority to tasks. Also, on the Nokia the birthday events showed the age of who's birthday it was.

On the plus side, the SE has an excellent display, fantastic camera and great add on applications. I also like the configurable themes but for a "power" user it's not quite there.

I really wanted a SE K750i, but at £100 for an upgrade I was happy to wait a year and get what I consider to be a really good phone later next year.

The thing I need to decide next year is whether to stick with o2 online which is cheaper, or get a new tariff from CPW on o2 and get an unbranded phone.

o2 online is great - I have had no problems, but making it hard to update the firmware with the official one on SE website is annoying.

1. Samsung (i have used the E700 & D500 as well as owned the E350, current phone and A300. i know a few people with Samsung phones and they never have any problems)

2. Nokia (had many of these but find that new ones tend to be overpriced and some of the recent ones are too basic such as the 2600, 1101, 2650, 6030, 6020 and 1600)

3. Sony Ericsson (had a few problems with these. i'm not too fond of their battery life. i only had the F500i which kept crashing and the K700i which i didn't like the battery life on and now takes ages to switch on and find the network)

4. Motorola (battery life is worse on these than the SE's. i have had Motorolas but only for about a week and took them back after that)

5. NEC (2 words: absolute CRAP!! the only NEC's i had were the e313 & e616 on Three. everything from having to charge every night to turning off and then displaying "Please Wait... Initalizing" to crashing)
