Maybe try getting one on line.
Also do you have to have more than £400 or £500 in the bank for this to pass?
I only have a Nationwide account but have had contracts from Three and T-Mobile yet not had any of the below.

I took one of my friends to get a new phone about a month ago (Sensation XE from o2). I honestly thought he wouldn't get accepted because he's never had ANY form of credit. He's 20 and never had a credit card, loan, overdraft or any sort of contract. I'm 21 and have had all of the above except a loan so I got mine easily, 2 years ago. Surprisingly he didn't have any problems.

Apparently getting credit when you have no credit history can be tricky. Although you have to start somewhere!
Try a store card, as they seem to give them away. Pay this off immediately to avoid any charges. That should then give you a credit record. Otherwise try your bank to see if they will give you a card.
Different shops and banks have different approaches to credit, so if one rejects you, you can always try another.

Be patient. You have to build up your credit rating with phone companies.

Go for a "pay monthly rolling 30 day contract sim only" type deal. Stick with that for around 3 or 4 months, threaten to leave and they will give you a deal on a 12 month contract. Again, sim only.

After 12 months on the sim only deal, as long as you have paid each and every month every time without fail, chances are you will get a "proper" contract deal with a new phone.

This is what I'm currently doing with Three. I only have 3 months left of the 12 month contract and I'm hoping to get an iPhone 4s on contract when they 12 months is up.

Hope this helps.

You could also try direct with the network and see if they will connect you up if you agree to a deposit, a few years back a friend had to give them £100 up front as a deposit for them to accept, or try for a SIM Only for a few months as there is less risk to the network as no subserdised handset to lose if you do not pay then see if they will allow you to move to a pay monthly with a subsidesed handset.

ummm , he should not have been able to tell you why not , just the fact that you could not have a contract , i take it you have no bad debt , if that is the case then the advice above is valid

Does anyone you live with at you're address have bad credit? Try going direct to the networks to see if you can get a contract.

You have to be careful in trying to get credit in different places over a short period because some or most do credit checks that show up on your credit history which in turn leads to caution from the retailers.

Apply online with o2 - they will say you have been unsuccessful but then will offer you a phone if you pay a deposit - they hold the deposit for 3 months and then start taking your monthly payments from it - I got a phone for me and then one for my hubby and my credit past isn't good - I've heard lots of folk are successful doing this - you do need a debit card tho

It is said that the networks don't always check all the information you put on your application. So if you were economical with the truth with certain answers you may get accepted.

Although of course this is just for information as to do so would be illegal and if caught you could get in a LOT of trouble so I wouldn't recommend it in anyway.

There are other things you can do to build up a better credit score. Having things like a proper ISP email address instead of a free one (hotmail, gmail etc) makes a difference.

I know a few people that have done this too.
