With her record breaking success for a female in the billboard charts, and record equalling success for a female at the Grammys, Adele is commercially and critically #1 in america right now, shes the top dog, the big cheese, numero uno, so all credit to her. She is also destroying records all over the world from Australia to North America to Europe, shes achieving things not seen since The Beatles. Shes remarkable. I would say however that Adele is ONE of the biggest stars in america...as shes alongside other mainstream acts Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Britney who have had very recent major success themselves. Also similar to Adele, they each have song(s) that are instantly recognisable to the man on the street. Its this mainstream success that makes these six ladies global superstars.”
and thats where the sales come in, she is massively outselling all of the artists you mentioned above, in america and around he world, i would put her and madonna in the same bracket at the moment (she might not sustain it but she is currently the biggest and most succesful music act in the world)
on a level below that - it would be britney, gaga, and beyonce
and on the third tier, rhianna, christina aguliera, katty perry and taylor swift
