In the ever growing cutthroat business will the likes of Jessie J or Katy B make it that far - Rihanna obviously will - she shits out albums like shelling peas. All my fave artists are way up there - Tori Amos, Kylie, Janet and Madonna.....it's nice to be able to follow them album by album

It depends how talented they are, really. If they have enough talent to adjust and move with the times, or be a frontrunner, or even slip into a completely different market, they're going to do it, if they want to.

Rihanna will obviously get to album 1200 before she's 30 because she just records the vocals and tours, it's really a clock-in-clock-out thing for her, with the record company making sure she remains relevant through subtle changes in the music and production, and various bits of scandal.

Lady Gaga would probably take a good 10 years to reach 12 albums. 2008: The Fame 2009: The Fame Monster 2011: Born This Way. If you go that route, then...

2008: The Fame
2009: The Fame Monster
2011: Born This way
2012: Album 3
2014: Album 4
2015: Album 5
2017: Album 6
2018: Album 7
2020: Album 8
2021: Album 9
2023: Album 10
2024: Album 11
2026: Album 12

That's a hell of a long time, really, but not factoring in EPs as albums, or remixes etc etc. She could even slip into piano mode and make a middle-of-the-road album.

Jessie J, I don't believe has the gift to keep momentum. She seems to have hit her stride already and isn't exactly making big waves, but we'll see.

Pixie Lott definitely won't LMAO

Britney may, it depends.

JLS will probably hit 12 by 2013 the way they churn their material out!

How many albums the artist gets to do is nothing to do with how talented they are. Not in today's music industry.

And I think it's ridiculous that people assume artists, who are 2 years into their career, are going to be around for another 20. You can't tell so far in the future with artists like Lady Gaga and Jessie J who've only just got famous very recently. I think none of the current popular pop stars will be around in 20 years.

The thing with Gaga is that she is a phenomenon. She is about to start her 2nd headline tour and is already packing out stadiums all over the world. She'll be around for as long as she wants to be. That's the difference between her and someone like Jessie J who's not really set anywhere alight despite, according to critics, having buckets and buckets of talent and being amazing.

That being said, either of them could Winehouse at any point, so who knows.

Let her work on it, it has only been two and a bit years since her last album.

I disagree. I'd say Lady Gaga will be around but I don't think she'll do electropop forever. She might eventually become a singer-songwriter or release a jazz or even Adele-style acoustic album. Jessie J might be around but again it's hard to know.

It would be great if she did.

7 studio albums (Baby One More Time, Oops I Did It Again, Britney, In The Zone, Blackout, Circus, Femme Fatale), a remix album (B In The Mix), two Greatest Hits (My Prerogative and The Singles Collection) and an unreleased album (Original Doll I think). I think only the studio albums count though so really she only has 7 albums.

Kate Bush one of our most revered icons is on 9 and has been around since 78

Rihanna is on 6 since 05

Depends on talent and productivity most artist slow down after their money years but if talented will continue to release critically if not commercially acclaimed albums.

Rihanna, Beyoncé, Britney and Taylor Swift I think will.

Others just depends on whether they can stay on top of trends, eg Katy Perry.

I think Gaga will get bored after a few more albums and settle down.

Adele will be like the Kate Bush example, she'll release for a long number of years but not a lot of material .

Are we including Greatest Hits and live albums etc or strictly studio albums in this?

If it's the latter then if you count the spanish language albums then crossover acts like Shakira and Enrique Iglesias are not far off.

Nooooo, studio albums ONLY - any fool can release Greatest Hits after All The Hits after The Very Best after The Essential.... Studio albums mean an effort was made.

That's debatable... take any X Factor contestant album for instance...

Shakira is recording her 10th studio album right now, so she's probably the next high profile artist that'll reach a 12th album.

Another of my favourites, Gloria Estefan just released her 22nd!! including the albums credited to Miami Sound Machine and Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine (the line up just slowly faded with the name but the band largely stayed the same)

Shakira has recorded 7 studio albums, four of which are in her own language and three in English.
