Looking to buy a new 50-55" TV over the next month or two.

Who's the best TV manufacturer for Smart/Connected TV in the UK, in terms of the amount of available apps and features?

I'm most interested in the catch-up services of the terrestrials and SlingPlayer, if available. Not too bothered about social networking.

Thanks.

are you sure you want to buy a tv based on its Online services rather than picture quality?
Pic quality will vary a lot from set to set, and at really big screen sizes the reproduction of SD is very tricky to say the least.

You could connect a pc to the tv instead.

PS3 has all the main catch up services plus Netflix (requires £5.99 sub and often carries HD/5.1) and Lovefilm (subs vary) and is a capable media streamer...

No, it's not the most important aspect for me but I will want to take it into account.

However, like you say, I doubt anything will beat the PS3 on current form - if only Demand Five would come on board!

I guess SlingPlayer is too much to ask for bar via Boxee and Google TV?

a PC will beat the PS3.

that way you can have a blu-ray player in it, and chuck in a couple of TV tuner cards, for a PVR. with Media Centre.

then you really do have an all-in-one solution.

and PS3 is a closed system - what happens when PS4 arrives and sony drop support, or if it goes wrong. A PC is open ended (sort of), you are not hooked into the Sony (for example) company for anything.

What happens when Microsoft stop supporting the version of Windows you're using? - just the same.
