You get the impression that the majority of the members of C4 Racing are big fans of Nick Luck and feel that he should have got a role on ITV. He isnt a bad presenter and has improved since he first started but he will only really be on Racing UK and i assume will still be doing a bit of work for NBC.

Specifically which of those was shunted to ITV4 and then dumped?
Because you claimed they do that with every sport. I'm just looking for one example of a sport contract that ITV shunted to ITV4 and then dumped. |

Hayley Turner put in a cringe worthily bad performance as 'expert' on ATR this afternoon, if the ITV bosses had been watching they might have had a change of mind quickly

ITV took the Boat Race from the BBC, it performed badly for them and they handed it back to the Beeb.
They didn't renew the contract because it was so expensive. ITV advanced it technically, using two helicopters for the first time, and also filming it in HD for the first time. And more importantly, they didn't relegate it to ITV4, which the OP claimed ITV "always" do, even though he's yet to produce a single example of ITV ever doing that. |

It performed very well - audiences of 9m during a Saturday afternoon - and won a Bafta and RTS awards.

ITV DUMPED ATHLETICS SNOOKER GYMNASTICS ICE SKATING . OK THEY MAY NOT HAVE ENDED UP ON ITV 4 BUT WERE STILL DUMPED SO THATS CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME............ |

And you obviously couldn't be arsed to read my further comment instead but would rather keep having a pop at me

So you're finally admitting that they have never relegated anything to ITV4 when the contract was for it to be on network ITV. Which is completely the opposite of what you originally claimed.
Thus you have no justification to suggest that ITV will dump all the horse racing on ITV4 based on historical precedent. which I also said............... my comment about ITV4 was a flippant remark for which I have attempted to qualify but for some reason you are choosing to ignore that part of my remark........ cheers |

Will now have to watch coverage on ATR mixed in with other meetings and with a very bad picture. |

I did wonder when was it last that a classic was not shown on terrestrial TV? |

ITV knew perfectly well how expensive it was when they got the contract, just an excuse.

ITV DUMPED ATHLETICS SNOOKER GYMNASTICS ICE SKATING . OK THEY MAY NOT HAVE ENDED UP ON ITV 4 BUT WERE STILL DUMPED SO THATS CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME............ Snooker - ITV had scheduling problems with snooker from the late 1980s onwards. Michael Grade became the boss at Channel 4, and didn't want ITV dumping its weekday afternoon coverage on Channel 4. ITV wanted to use weekday afternoon slots to show Australian soaps and other programming that attracted a female audience. A second problem was that from the start of the 1988/89 season onwards, ITV was committed to showing top flight football on Sunday afternoons, in slots previously reserved for live coverage of snooker finals. ITV's snooker coverage continued into the early 1990s (finals were shown on ITV on Sunday afternoons on weeks when the BBC was showing FA Cup matches). They then continued with the Charity Challenge, then towards the end of the decade, they showed the Nations Cup and Champions Cup for a few years, during that rather awkward period where Brian Barwick was in charge of ITV Sport. In recent years, ITV has increased its coverage of snooker massively. There is now top quality coverage of several major events every season on ITV4. I'd argue they're Britain's best snooker broadcaster these days. If we're talking about broadcasters 'walking away' from sports, based on your logic, the BBC has 'walked away' from horse racing, cricket and boxing, and Channel 4 has 'walked away' from horse racing, cricket, golf, basketball, baseball, sumo wrestling and American Football. The fact is all broadcasters have picked up and dropped various sports for various reasons over the years. |

A channel drops a sport "major contempt of the highest order".
DUHO doesn't seem to understand how sports rights work. |

Athletics - ITV covered the sport extensively for many years. Interest waned when the early 1990s generation of top British athletes started to retire. A second problem was that big international meetings (what was then the Golden Four), would be shown from 8-9pm on ITV, then coverage would switch to Channel 4 for the 9-10pm hour. ITV's commercial relationship with Channel 4 came to an end and due to the declining fortunes of British athletes by the mid-1990s, ITV didn't feel it made commercial sense to devote two hours to athletics on prime time, often on Friday nights. They continued to show late night highlights and weekend afternoon coverage towards the end of its run.
In that Racing Post article about C4 dropping the Arc, it made mention that ITV will be announcing their full on-screen presentation line up for 2017 onwards, a week on Friday (16th September).
