Old C4 faces returning, as in under the Highflyer production banner? Who are they?

Well you can forget Derek Thompson for a start! The only person from that era who will definitely be part of the ITV set up is Alice Plunkett and that's probably by default as there is no like presenter in her mould (i.e. a big jump racing fan) or a daughter of a jumps trainer in broadcasting (though if this was 10 years earlier, Laura Bradburne - as was - could have been considered).

The Sun are reporting Matt Chapman will be part of the ITV team. I know he writes for them on a Saturday so you would think they should know. They also saying Holt and Hoiles will be commentators which if is the case I will be pleased but surprised at.

Maybe they will move him towards the betting side instead of Tanya Stevenson. Or they could have him as a roving reporter and interviewer.

Being widely reported now - Chapman will link the betting ring with general interviews.
Based on his role on ATR which he's increasingly done (Windsor Monday nights for example)

Chapman is a character, may be of an appeal to the casual viewers. I know likes of my dad and a few other seasoned horse racing watchers/experts, can't stand him!

Fair to say he is definitely a marmite character, and think he would admit that himself.

I think the column in the sun has helped him. Regardless of what we may think of the paper its still by far the biggest paper, therefore he is already known to the Saturday punter (and he tips a fair few winners)

Glad Chapman has got the job, he deserves it and will be interesting to see which trainer or jockey he winds up first ?

Many thanks for this mate.

So do I take it that all the other meetings in rest of Jan and whole of Feb will be on ITV4 ?

Thats okay!

Yes, basically the other weekend meetings will be broadcast on ITV4.

Its good to hear that the Craven Meeting, usually held in April will now be televised FTA on ITV4. Dont think that Channel 4 have had it for a while.

Is the list of ITV4 fixtures anywhere?

ps weren't they supposedly announcing the full details today? Or are Messrs Holt and Hoiles playing hardball - and who could blame them the way they've been treated?

Very surprised they aren't showing Cheltenham trials day in Jan and the old Schweppes day in Feb. You'd think they'd build up to the festival

They will be showing them. On ITV 4. The Six Nations is on in February

I still think that ITV should show more on the main channel. For some meetings it isnt possible due to clashes with other events such as the French Open, 6 Nations, Tour de France, or Euro Qualifiers. But for an meets such as the St Leger meet surely it is better to have the preceding days on the main channel. ITV's daytime coverage is fairly low key. Im sure people wouldnt mind if David Dickenson's Real Deal wasnt on for a couple of days.

Trials day is in January. Ideal as an advert for the festival

I'd have thought ITV would have wanted to front-load 2 or 3 weeks on the main channel in January.

I have to disagree with a few posts above. For me ITV are doing EXACTLY the right thing. Lets not forget they are doing 40 days now on ITV 1 rather than 34 so that's an improvement for a start.

Now for all that Jan and Feb does have some decent races it also has quite a few poor ones on a Saturday too. ITV 1 are starting on New Years Day which is understandable but then their next coverage is the biggie, Cheltenham. They are, quite rightly in my opinion, going in all guns blazing with the biggest festival. ITV 4 is perfectly fine to be showing the Jan and Feb meets.

I see that Sky Sports are going to show live coverage of Arc afternoon after C4 pulled out

the 3 hour special will air on Sky Sports 2

I assume they'll just broadcast the ATR coverage but they might do their own thing
