Stuart Machin was the on course commentator at Haydock. He named four possible horses as being 'involved' for the 15:15 but in the end the first two was none of these. The order was called largely on the info provided by a steward that had been placed at the finish line - no distances or winning times were available. The winner was trading at a high level right to the end because of the lack of info.

I only watched selected races and watched them on RUK

It was quite interesting for the big race of the day - the Long Walk hurdle - because you couldn't see the horses approaching the finish until well after they'd jumped the last.

It was only some time after the race, a few minutes, that Lydia said 'we've now got the channel 4 pictures'.........and they showed the horses jumping the last at which Ballyoptic slipped and fell. Until then they had no idea where he had gone............

it was interesting that C4 had their own camera down at the last hurdle and gave RUK the footage straight after the race

Didnt get to see the racing today, but from what i heard the fog made commentary incredibly difficult today, particularly at Haydock. Who were the commentators today?”

Haydock was better at the start but worsened very quickly. Stewart Machin had that difficult job.

At Ascot it seemed to get better much to the relief of Richard Hoiles

Pretty common practice Ch4 (and prev on BBC) have their own cameras at meetings if you look at replays of full races compare the ATR/RUK coverage to Ch4.

The fog made TV coverage at Haydock virtually pointless though Ascot wasn't quite so bad.

Sad to say goodbye to the "Sage of Halifax", Jim McGrath, on his last appearance on C4 after 32 years with them and previously 4 years with ITV.

I will also miss him, what a gentleman he was

Richard Hoiles was at Ascot and it was also his farewell to Channel 4 racing per his Twitter feed

Looks like he was calling it from the monitor, I'm sure if he had used bins he would have been able to pick some of the run in out

Is there going to be a special tribute for Channel 4's coverage in their last meeting?

Yep, they'll be staying on air until 4.15pm on Tuesday 27th.

On a separate note, I noticed during last night's SPOTY, the horse racing footage - of Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National and The Derby - was credited to Racing UK and not C4, for some strange reason.

Presumably Simon Holt will call the big one then, the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day? Will be his last major race for Channel 4.

You would think so. Is Kempton on 27th on C4? If so imagine Holt will be there and will take course feed for Chepstow (Hoiles?)

TV3 in Ireland have won the rights to broadcast ITV's racing output, which has Irish exclusivity.

RUK have got 5 jumps meetings scheduled for tomorrow afternoon

It's going to be a nightmare - split screens, no time for paddock views or pre or post race analysis, replays, delayed starts ........ presenters spending the whole afternoon talking about start times rather than races

For the first time in ages I could well be watching channel 4
