Only saw the beginning of todays coverage but from what I saw and the comments here it does look like they've got more of hte spirit of the C4 Racing of old rather than the BBC-lite clone it had become.
The casual viewer (where I certainly fall) doesn't know the difference. Yes, Cheltenham, the National and the Derby will always be the big ticket races but on a week to week basis only the racing fan can really distinguish between the quality of the field - racing is all about racing. It's not about records and the way racing works means the big name jockeys are there week in week out anyway. If ITV had something else to offer at weekend fair enough demoting it all to ITV4, but most weeks they don't so I do think airing 2-3 more meetings before Cheltenham would have been wise just to get ITV Racing established. |

Have to say the coverage from what I caught of it was good. To be honest I always enjoyed racing on both BBC & C4. But can't see how C4 racing became a BBC lite clone. Its problem was Nick Luck, awful and moving presentation into the Studio not a good idea.

Anyway I don't see anything wrong with explaining some of the intricacies of racing and if that includes expaining what 9-4 means so be it. I don't see any harm in explaining how for example weights are allocated to horses in handicaps and why some horses carry more than others in group races which would normally be level weights, what a cross fence, an open ditch and a plain fence are etc etc. |

Unless it's a typo a) there are several meetings on ITV3 and b) they don't seem to be covering the Welsh National at Chepstow

The ITV3 dates are due to Le Tour de France being on ITV4 in July.

Thanks - there's also a Friday Sandown meeting in April on ITV3 for some reason. Just heard from Richard Hoiles that the Welsh National omission is almost certainly a typo and is being checked out

A very insightful piece by Kevin Blake on ATR regarding the ITV coverage and the longer term prospects of FTA horseracing, very good read.
