What choice did we have? They both wanted out, and we were in colossal debt under Hicks and Gilett. Thankfully, Lucas has stepped up to fill the Mascherano role (sadly he is injured though) but we never did replace Alonso. I was still up for giving Aquilani another chance, but it doesn't look like happening now.

My prediction is 3-1 to Newcastle.
To be fair their defence isn't much better. Carra is my biggest worry for us but hopefully his experience will see him through.

Demba Ba is just walking through the defence.

Why didn't Kenny play Coates.

This

I hate it when people say "Oh I can't believe you let them go"

Alonso was the mistake, but we weren't exactly the richest team in the world and Rafa has already said he wanted to buy Jovetic and Aquilani with the Alonso money and have Lucas playing alongside Mascherano

Unfortunately, the Jovetic sale didn't go through, Aquilani didn't quite work out and we finished 7th. It's not like we had much choice than to let Mascherano go. Why would he stay at a club not in Champions League football with Roy Hodgson as manager when he could go to Barcelona the best side in the world ?

FFS, Carroll has dived twice in the last few minutes, is he trying to get sent off. He could have frigging scored then.

Oh come on Carroll, get off the floor, 3 times now, a big man like that, should not go down as soon as the ball hits him.

Great passionate game so far what this league is about; I'm willing to say Carroll had lost his footing and went down for that pen claim.

Erm no, it was a definite dive, he had loads of time to shoot, but instead tapped the ball further than he could run and looked up for the Goalie coming towards him.

He looked like he was anticipating contact from Krul so got ready to go to ground, when the contact didn't come he just went down anyway.

Was pretty embarrassing though, even live it was a clear dive. No need for it at all considering he's had a good start to the match other than that.

Please send Carroll off ref, this is becoming a joke now, fell over and clutched his stomach for no reason.

Skrtel out of position and the rest of the defence caught ball watching

Knowing Carroll he probably dived and accidentally missed the ground and went into an advertising hoarding or something..

Newcastle are going to thrash us and Kenny will be sacked. This is how it's going.

We should leave Carroll with the great con artist that is Cashley and take their front 3 in return.

The way things are going we won't even finish in the Top 10.

If we get thrashed today and lose in the FA cup, I can't see Kenny making it to the end of this season.
