I know different people want different things from a gig. Some people want to be at the front and standing some dont mind sitting with a good view and not in a crush. Some people want lots of costume changes and effects while others just want to see a band rocking out on stage.

Personally, on Friday night I went to see The Presidents Of The USA in Wolverhampton. It was excellent. I was right a the front with a perfect view but still in the crush. They arnt a band that take themseves serously so they were having a laugh with the crowd, obviously enjoying themselves and playing all the songs people knew and wanted.

So what do you want from a gig.........

A bit of everything really.. theatrics, crowd interaction, dancing/moshing all mixed together.

A good sound mix in a venue with good acoustics, having the band play on the top of their form is a nice bonus too.

I used to want to be at the front amongst the crush, I much prefer an elevated seated position in comfort now from a vantage point to take in all the show, as it happened when I went to see Pink Floyd at Earls Court in 94 where parts of the show actually happened in the middle of the arena and even arrived from the back of the arena, that's something you cant get being crushed up against the stage.

I like at least one good encore too.

I think it all depends on what sort of artist/band you go to see. Going to see someone like Lady Gaga or Britney Spears in a big arena, there is more emphasis on the 'show' part of the gig, with light displays, big sets, dance routines, and costume changes.

Whereas if you go to a smaller show with, for example, a rock band playing you wouldn't be expecting to see that and would be more concerned with the band playing well and the sound being ok.
