Madonna - The Ballads II??
She's going though a similar backlash to Erotica/Bedtime Stories with Hard Candy/MDNA (so far) - instead of sex it's age....maybe after this album it's time for a 2nd ballads compilation entitled "Time Stood Still" - I have this playlist on th'ipod
Time Stood Still Frozen Intervention Paradise (Not For Me) Drowned World/Substitute For Love Like A Flower The Power Of Goodbye Love Profusion Nobody's Perfect Has To Be Gone (Orbit Mix) What It Feels Like For A Girl To Have And Not To Hold Masterpiece + adding Falling Free when it's released and room for 1 or 2 new ones. "The songs are still all but forgotten...." |

the singles have not been well received and that could be viewed as a commercial backlash. however, the album reviews for mdna are very encouraging. too soon to write this album off just yet. a compilation at this stage would be messy, she`s no longer involved with warner and they own most of the songs.it seems that interscope are already trying a similar tact in terms of uk promotion, giving `masterpiece` to radio 2 to play. |

Erm sod that....and what backlash???
the Erotica/SEX era was a massive off the scale backlash....the MDNA ageism is just playground crap! MDNA is setting records already and has recieved massive acclaim already her SUper Bowl was a massive success! and the previews are so exciting! If you dont like it then sod it...but by damn i dont want a ballad compilation..she never repeats herself anyway ![]() however i would love a B-sides and Rarities collection tbh...so many immense sonvs from each era that never see the light of day...maybe inbetween albums or something she will ensure it happens. But like it or not MDNA is gonna own it!

hence the (so far) - reviews are good but I mean the general Madonna age thing - everyone I speak to and online seem to focus on age age age age
Doing ballads collections is very "sell out" and crappy tbh. It only worked before to showcase a softer side in an era where she hit intense levels based on topic and production. Whereas with MDNA she is just facing the usual "pressed haters" response who use her age as a way of critisising what Madonna can do...so sad! But **** em

Yeah but thats it though...musically she is hitting it on the spot. Madonna ages as do 6 billion people in the world.

she wanted to be cast in evita, in way `take a bow` and `you`ll see` were her video auditions. she was campaigning heavily for that part.

Worst mistake ever - cannot bear the whole project. Madonna nearly lost me in 1996/7 - thankfully along came some decent music and not dated 70's semi prog-rock/ballads

i think the golden globe, the critical acclaim and the massive career boost kind of makes that statement redundant.

i do seem to be misquoting you or maybe sometimes take your comments out of context. its not deliberate or to undermine you. i just read what you have written and disagree somewhat. i obviously see things differently to you, but i do agree with you sometimes.

The problem with doing another ballad album is that in recent years most of her ballads haven't been hits or even singles! The majority of the songs on STR were hits. The industry has changed and now it's very hard to get a ballad to be a hit whereas in the 80's and the 90's you could.
These compilations are more for casual fans not hard core Madonna fans who would have the songs anyway. Casual fans want to hear hits they know not obscure album tracks. I don't think the whole STR era was a sell out. It was the place she was in her life at that time. She was getting ready to settle down and have a baby so naturally she was in a softer mood at that time. It wouldn't make sense for her to do a ballad album now because she's in a different place now. Madonna is always changing and I don't think any of her projects are sell outs but a reflection of what she was going through at the time. |

Most fans in this age of gizmos and technology, will, if they want a sequel to STR, create their own. I have! I call it "In This Life" and it contains the following tracks: In This Life Love Tried to Welcome Me Don't Cry For Me Argentina The Look of Love Promise to Try Nothing Fails Frozen Drowned World (Substitute For Love) I Deserve It The Power of Goodbye Time Stood Still Devil (Wouldn't Recognise You) Pray For Spanish Eyes You Must Love Me Paradise (Not For Me) |

I wanna know why Bad Girl is always left off the Greatest Hits collections. It was shunned from Something To Remember, again forgotten for GHV2 and once again left hidden for Celebration.
Such a shame. I doubt any of her newer fans even know about many of these hidden gems. |

Would love to hear the following on an album all stripped back acoustically or with an orchestra, kind of electronically unplugged
Ray Of Light ( slower tempo, acoustic guitar only ) You'll See ( Symphonic Orchestra ) Mer Girl ( piano ) You Must Love Me ( symphonic orchestra ) Sanctuary ( symp orchestra ) Like An Angel Passing By ( symp orchestra ) Masterpiece ( strings and piano only ) Devil Wouldn't Recognise ( acoustic guitar only ) Dear Jessie ( piano only ) Nothing Fails ( Gospel singers and orchestra ) |

Evita was the best thing, cinematically, she's ever done. She was criminally overlooked for an Oscar nomination in my opinion. Musically she has never sung better.
