Spam / marketing Text Messages!

Hey guys!

I just got a text message (SMS) from "PPICLAIMS" saying the following...

"Thank you for applying to make a claim. Your claim pack should arrive in the next few days. Any questions, please call Belmont Thornton on 08453780055"

So that annoyed me but I just ignored it, then aboyt 5 minutes later I got another message from "27770" saying the following...

"FreeMsg: Reply YES to 87770
To ACTIVATE ur 5 FREE Euromillions lines in nxt £27M Jkpot
Txt YES
we'll sms ur FREE lines
Lottobytext 02070810976
Txt stop 2 end"

So basically it looks to me like a company has sold my number to 2 other companies who are sending me this crap.

So I googled the Belmont Thornton one and found this opt out page: http://www.ppiclaimcompany.co.uk/pag...ut-manual.aspx - typed in my number and it said client found!!! So does that mean someone has taken out a claim with my number. It looks like a legit PPI Claim website.

I then googled the euro millions one and found this: http://www.smswatchdog.com/text-message-from/87770 - now this one looks definitely like a scam as others have got it, it also has terrible "text speak" spelling. I am reluctant to reply STOP as people are saying that's what they want and they will charge for it.

I have just left it and will possibly do something if I get anther one.

What do you guys make of those? How have they got my number and should I be concerned?

Sorry its a lot to read but thanks very much

Probably speculative spam and therefore probably best just deleted. I got one the other day about PPI, which is funny, because I'd never take out PPI even if I got paid.

They probably just hit randomly generated blocks of numbers and hope enough people fall for it.

I wouldn't even waste a text replying stop, as all that does is confirm the number is valid and if they want to waste their time/money/effort spamming you, their problem...

age = has to be 16+ not 18+ to have credit card

Of course you have to be over 18 to have a credit card.

You aren't legally able to obtain credit until you're 18.

It might be possible to be named on somebody else's credit account if you're younger, but they'd really have to trust you and you absolutely wouldn't be eligible for PPI in that case.

Indeed, never text stop to these things, it just flags your number up as active and you will get more of them. Filter messages by content if you can, as just blacklisting the number won't do much, as they are mostly fake numbers they use anyway.
