Usually an appearance on the X Factor leads to a spike in sales or popularity. However I think Alexandra's appearance as a guest judge has hurt her chances of a number 1 with 'Elephant' as I think the public were turned off. It's unfortunate because I think she is talented and the song is certainly better than a lot of previous number 1's. We will just have to see if she can turn it around in her appearances this week.

I doubt her appearance on X Factor had that much of an effect, negative or positive.

If she doesn't get number one (not that that's the be all and end all), it would probably be due to lack of airplay, and people simply not liking it. I know I sure don't like it.

I don't see what she done wrong on X Factor, and it's sad that some people make a big deal out of the ok.com thing.

And if Elephant doesn't get to No.1 it's due to some radio station not playing her new song for some weird reason.

That was months ago its probably more akin to the fact her single is yet another generic dance tune that is a poor mans Rihanna single and most are sick of hearing such tunes especially when the artist and music is mediocre at best blame the song and her team and her for allowing such tripe to be released in attempt at relevancy.

Are you drunk. Elephant is already #5 on iTunes with NO support from Radio 1 or Capital...she still has a massive fanbase and the Ok.com/letmeknow stuff was just blown out of proportion by a minority...

Plus Elephant is pretty close to the others in the top 5 so chances are it will climb and get at least a top 3 position by the end of the week...

I doubt it will be anywhere near that by the end of the week..

Absolutely nothing to do with X Factor.

To be fair when you have a massive/dedicated fanbase to get it up there that is what matters first and foremost....then its up to everyone else how it lasts in the charts.

I however cannot stick the Burke and the way she acted on the X Factor it was a bit too...i dunno over confident?? brassy?? OTT? i dunno! but one thing for sure is that...Elephant is actually a really good Dance jam...and i end up movin to it whenever i hear it.

So if she has someone who doesnt think twice about her dance to it...think about what she CAN do with some promo and performances access those Dance markets...teaming up with Erick Morillo was a very great thing to do

You mean you hope. It's almost level with Starships in terms of popularity....she's heading for a top 3 which is incredible given the circumstances.

LOL. I doubt anyone even cares about OK.com now. If people like Elephant (like I do) it'll do well and go top ten. If they don't, then it won't do too well. I know Capital (who play the same damn shite like ''Domino'' all the time) and Radio ''we are so cool, aren't we'' One aren't giving it much if any airplay, but if Coverdrive can do it without these radio stations then so can Alex.

Obviously you don't know how the charts work. She's already in the top 5, so all the other singles in the top 10 below her would have to all be selling consistently higher than her all week for Elephant to drop down and considering they are all old songs this is very unlikely...

Emeli, Gotye and Flo-Rida are all on their way down and with Alexandra doing more promo this week it's likely she will surpass them in sales this week and make it into the top 3 along with Nicki.

You can doubt, but all the signs are pointing to a very respectable position for Ms. Burke.

Not really. I'm amazed how many people still don't understand how iTunes singles chart works.

She is Top 5 due to pre-orders and her core fanbase buying it, but iTunes is a rolling chart which means that unless she keeps selling at the current pace throughout the week it might start dropping depending on how big of a lead she has built up. It's unlikely she will keep selling at the current pace since the song is shit and radio is not playing it for that reason. It's already dropping in Ireland.

Personally, I think it will finish in the Top 5 with sales between 50-60K then sink like a stone in the next few weeks. A follow up single will be released shortly with a big profile featured artist holding her hand to guarantee a hit.

Take a look at all the songs around her...they are all pretty old and only Nicki Minaj will be growing in sales. It will maintain at least a top 5 position if not a top 3, she's already built up enough momentum to break the top 5, and with the promo she has lined up this is likely to boost sales and facilitate a push in the charts...

She never did much promo in Ireland anyway so it's remarkable that it got as high as it did. She will do very well with Elephant, and by the sounds of things she could do even better with the second single...

Considering she's had no radio support from the major stations from this song she is doing so well....artists like Marcus Collins, Leona Lewis etc all had big radio support for their songs and yet Elephant is still charting similarly if not better than them with none of the radio support that they had with those songs. Just goes to show that she really does have a sizeable and committed fanbase in the UK. Congratulations Alexandra.

Elephant received over 1000 plays in the past week, and has been in heavy rotation on video channels. Speaking of Collide, it didn't have much radio support either (I believe it only reached #30 on airplay) and had less support from video channels. Not to mention strong competition in form of Pixie and The Saturdays. Alexandra has ZERO competition and if she stalls at #5 I would say that's pretty underwhelming considering lack of competition.

I wonder if this will sell less than Collide, lol. I believe a certain regular from the ABAT has said that there is no way Leona can beat Alexandra in a "singles chart battle" (or some nonsense like that) so if Elephant sells less than Collide I will be laughing my ass off.

Alexandra also has strong competition from Nicki - Starships and Gotye who has been selling bucketloads, so hardly ZERO competition as you put it

As for radio support, at least Leona had a high profile premiere on Capital plus support from all stations, Alexandra has been snubbed and has had to rely on TV and other promo to keep the awareness of the song up. Considering Leona AND Marcus had ample support from radio they should have done a whole lot better....

A top 5 is very encouraging for Alexandra considering the circumstances. Alex has strong competition and poor radio support. Nicki is #13, Gotye is #1 in the UK airplay chart, while Alexandra is #73, so her charting on iTunes is an achievement no matter which way you slice it.

Gotye has been out for weeks and has peaked in terms of sales. Starships has been out for a good few weeks as well. There aren't any big releases this week.

Imagine if Pixie and The Saturdays were releasing this week.

Alex is going to do very well with Elephant.

It's more likely to be due to the irony of a song called Elephant being utterly forgettable rather than something on a tv show 4 or 5 months ago.

If it doesnt do well its because it is absolutely diabolical.
