Digital TV in New Zealand
Sandy.1

I spend a few months each year in NZ. TV in NZ is shortly to go digital ther will be both terrestrial and satellite feeds.

I enquired as to whether my Humax or any other British STB would be capable of use in NZ and was told that they wouldn't be suitable. The reason given was something to do with MPEG 2 and MPEG 4.

Can anyone advise on this.

There is an excessive number of adverts on NZ TV and the technique of starting to record early in the evening and then being able to jump over the adverts would be very desirable. They even interrupt the evening news every ten minutes

Sorry if this is a bit off topic but I really am looking forward to getting home to my Humax

They probably use 7K mode for DVB-T like they do in OZ rather than our 8K mode.

A generic fta digital sat box should work fine though with DVB-S (Foxsat-hdr in non Freesat mode)

Hi
I wouldn't buy a UK box.
Simply because those facilities your want won't come with any box from the UK. You can get now and now etc but all the extras that come with a country specific box, such as series link and a fully updated EPG. Plus updates are specific to the country, i.e. for new improvements to the box.
In NZ they also have the Tivo box which you may want to try.
