can you disconnet the sound when transferring video tapes to DVD's

By what method are you transferring the tapes to DVD?
If using a combo DVD/VCR then probably unlikely. If using separate machines then all you need do is connect the Video Out of the VCR to the Video In on the DVD. Can be a little more complicated if you are using SCART as you will have to modify the plug at one end to remove the two audio pins. Or use a pair of SCART to phono plug adapters, one in the VCR one in the DVD and just plug the Video sockets together. Make sure you use an OUTPUT one on the VCR and an INPUT one on the DVD (or switched types set appropriately). |

Surely it would be so obvious to turn down the sound on the telly so as not to have to hear the copy taking place, no one would need to ask the question. Would they?

Given the number of people who do not get that a VCR has its own tuner and does not need to be actually connected to a TV to be able to record then I would not be so sure as the OP's actual intent.
