...expecting Louie to give her the same, but decided he had to up his mark to 8.5 because Louie gave a 6.5...? Might explain things. Robin might have pressed 5.5 out of shock at Louie's mark.

Is it not more plausible that he did mean 8.5 in the first place? 8 is above 5 on a numberpad, so it's easy to see how the mistake might have been made.

Given that it wouldn't have made any difference to the overall leaderboard positions unless Robin gave Jorgie a 10 - and even then it'd have only meant she tied with Jen - I can't really see what the point of some quick maths would have been.

EDIT: OK, I should take into account that Jen hadn't skated at that point...but nonetheless, Robin couldn't have brought Jorgie's mark up higher than Chemmy and Chico's no matter what score he changed to.

I think he just bottled it and lied about hitting the wrong button

Much as I dont think she deserved the 8.5, I still think the 5.5 was a mistake. If it had been 7 or 7.5 and he changed it I would wonder, but I dont think he would have given her a 5.5. As the above poster said the 8 is just above 5 on the keyboard and I think it was a mistake .

Robin wouldnt have known Louis mark at the time he pressed 5.5. They all mark at the same time. I think he simply slipped on the button

I thought Katarina may have made a mistake with a score once, but she didn't change it! They should be more careful, and perhaps not allowed to change a score?

Makes sense...but arguing against conspiracy theories with logic & common sense doesn't usually work.
