Eminem appreciation thread
Rick Ross

Best selling artist of the noughties.

85million+ albums.

Reason I'm pointing out the stats is if you look at the majority of artists that have done huge numbers like this or more, have music that is all watered down, generic and not out the box. In addition to this and he is a RAPPER, it's not the norm to do huge numbers (although in the last few years the highest first week sales in the U.S have been by rappers). And in fact only Eminem, 2pac and Jay-Z have sold more than 50million albums.

The guy really is a phenomenon in my opinion. Considering white rappers before him were crap, he not only raised the bar but lyrically he is the best ever. 2pac beats him for passion, Biggie and Jay-Z for story telling and that's it.

Over the years he has been outspoke, taken the absolute piss out of huge popstars, and hasn't been politically correct

So how has he managed to cross-over so well?

Anyways long may he continue! Recovery was word-for-word his best album in my honest opinion, may not be as classic as his LP's but after deeply analysing this album, no doubt it is for me. Hell: the sequel with Royce was also a good album too.

Also one last question, how relevant/necessary is he overall, in music? (I specify overall because he's without a doubt safe in hip-hop).

white rappers before him were not crap ( house of pain , 3rd bass, beastie boys) ..and i wouldnt say jay z and biggie were the best story tellers, especally jay z. (slick rick or kool g rap is the best ever imo)

he managed to cross over so well because he connected with the white suburban kids who were into hip hop becuase he looked like them and he was produced by dre so that gave him his credibility...hes the hip hop version of elvis.
Lyrically he is one of the best but hes not THE best

(i am a fan by the way ..well his first 3 albums anyway)

He seems a very genuine person and tells his life through his songs which fortunately seem to have become tamer lyrics-wise.

You can virtually experience him grow up and deal with his anger issues in a non-violent way.

His megahit Lose Yourself actually helped me to psyche myself up to go for a job promotion (Success is the only option, failure's not).

My favourite track is Stan, great together with Dido.
