What happened to the aerial ballet?

There was no aerial ballet last year, as far as I remember. Hayley Tamddon's (which I put up) has been removed from YouTube by ITV for "copyright reasons". I know it didn't have much to do with skating, but it was a beautiful spectacle, especially Bonnie Langford's effort (as we might expect).

I also remember that extraordinary "skydiving" movement which Hayley and Daniel did. I still have the file of that.

Personally I always thought that the aerial ballet always gave the female contestants an unfair advantage. So am glad they stopped doing it.

Its easier for a female to look graceful in the air.

Agreed - hope it doesn't ever come back. The show is called dancing on ice not flying in the air. Two of the best contestants on the ice over the years Kyran & Chris were made to look clumsy & clunky when flying. Poor Kyran could barely fit his shoulders through the wires.

yeah the flying is nice but it gives quite a big advantage to females/trained dancers/slighter built celebs and has very little to do with skating ability

And made worse by the fact they had it in the final as well.

I loved the flying and it IS possible for the guys to look good IF they try hard enough.
I have seen guys in pro shows doing wire work and it can be stunning and elegant.
Dan Whiston is an expert at wires/silks etc and always manages to look graceful.

The only male contestant to have done a decent flying performance so far imo is Ray Quinn. Who has a background in dance and theatre.

If they do flying then they should do something that the females would find tougher than the men to balance things out.

but he's trained in it ... he's not very tall nor is he build like a rugby player .. we're talking about celebs here who haven't had years of training and practice in arial work and aren't trained dancers

Ray wasn't too bad at it but he has a dancing background and isn't very broad

Hayley Tamaddon's aerial ballet, which had been blocked in YouTube, can now be seen.

I know there are good arguments against it, but it makes a beautiful spectacle. Bonnie Langford's was good too.

I agree, I loved watching it. Suzanne Shaw was brilliant too.

So it is - someone can't make their mind up. Anyway, I still have the file, if anyone wants a copy.
