Should I Get an IPad2?
Rob200696

I am considering buying an iPad 2 tomorrow and was just wondering if it was worth its money.
Can you get torrent on it?
And i want it to use games, internet, twitter, facebook, but will also need to use things like skype, itunes, and something for school work.

Is it worth buying a 32GB iPad 2 for £399?

HELP PLEASE!!

It is up to you. The new Ipad is supposed to be faster, but otherwise not much different.

Where have you seen a 32GB iPad 2 for £399?

I'd wait for the 3rd gen. to be released this Friday, then get that or get a cheaper iPad 2.

Torrents - No.

Games, internet, Twitter, Facebook, Skype, iTunes - Yes.

Something for school work - Such as what?

Quad-core GPU, 2048*1536 resolution display (four times the number of pixels of the iPad 1 & 2's 1024*768), and a far better rear camera (although I still think tablet cameras are pointless).

Must admit I've ordered an ipad 3 which should be here on friday, but popped into an apple store today and.. I can't see the pixels on ipad 2, and it seems pretty damn fast (not had one before!)

Wondering how much of an impact these upgrades will give... to be honest though, its the same price as the 2 was. Hoping the resolution is obviously better, rather than just the DPI ... if that makes sense.

I did watch one of the 'first look' videos of the iPad 3 on YouTube from somewhere like CNET and they compared the iPad 2 to iPad 3 screen and I could see the iPad 3's graphics/resolution looked a lot smoother.

John Lewis still has a number of the reduced priced iPad 2 in stock. I know I've said that I couldn't justify the cost of an iPad, but it's very tempting. Includes 2 year warranty.

No it isn't.

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/hom...d/select_ipad2

£329 WiFi only, £429 WiFi + 3G.

£399/£499 were the original price points for the 16GB iPad 2, and were cut once the 3rd gen. came out.

iPad 2 is still great in my opinion I thoroughly recommend it. If you can afford it get the iPad 3 the screen is amazing for reading and watching HD video but the iPad 2 is in no way a poor product or substandard it is still great.

Internet - Yes.

Games - It depends... Some games are very big, some are small. Probably OK, so long as you don't try and stuff it with tonnes of stuff.

Would you really need 3G?

I make do with WiFi only without issue. WiFi at home, WiFi at work, WiFi at hotels / coffee shops / etc.

On the odd occasion I'm somewhere without WiFi, I just tether my iPad to my phone and use its 3G connection. Do you have a smartphone and tethering-friendly tariff?

Lol torrent on an ipad, that is not its purpose. Its a consumption device.
If you can afford it even the lowest level new ipad is better than ipad 2 now. You just can't get around not having that new display...its the thing that finally makes tablets as they should be.

If you're talking about 3G, then that is rarely better than a fixed home broadband connection over wifi.

A cellular connection can be affected by many variables including whether you're moving around, what the weather's like (certain atmospheric conditions can cause cellular interference), how many other people are connected to the same cell tower as you, and even whether there's a 3G connection available (depending on who your 3G provider is).

3G out and about can be good, but it's not as solid an option as a fixed wifi point with broadband.

The only thing that puts me off getting an iPad 2 is how long Apple will continue supporting it - will it get all the features of iOS 6, or will it slow down like with some of the iPhone updates? (Rhetorical questions obviously! )

I'd like to know this as well. The wifi on my iPhone is slooooowww when browsing the net compared to my netbook, I assume the iPad wifi is much faster.

If you mean public wifi hotspots, then the answer is 'it depends what the speed of the hotspot is'. I've used public hotspots that are great and others that are rubbish. That's got nothing to do with the iPod/iPhone/iPad.

With regard to the hardware, to my knowledge all of the iPod touch models have had the capability to use wifi b/g and n. N is the fastest of those, but again, you'll only get a fast n connection if the wifi hotspot you're using is set up for n, otherwise it'll be b or g, which are slower. That's down to the hardware and connection for the wifi hotspot, not down to the iPad, and would be slow regardless of what type of device you try to connect with.

How old is your iPod? Is it a first generation one?

I was in Tescos today and they had the iPad 2 32Gb Wifi for £399. Now I am thinking of getting an iPad but I doubt I will be gaming or watching many movies tbh so I'm weighing up the pros and cons of getting an iPad 2 (which the missus has and does most of what I want) or spending more and getting the new one. If I'm not gaming or movie watching will I still get the most out of the differet between the new and the old ?
