Samsung SMT - S7800 USB viewing issue

Hi all,

Firstly, sorry if this has been spoken about before!!

My Sky Subscription ended today so I hooked up my new Samsung box.... which was all working great, UNTIL....

I plugged in a USB stick to watch some programmes and during playback the sound and picture was stuttering (as if there was signal interruption). It was happening on a few files I tested - I then plugged the same USB stick into my PS3 and it played the same files with no issue at all!

Has anyone else has this issue and if so, is there a fix OR have I got a faulty box?...

(The menu buttons - when they are across the bottom of the screen are quite slow to respond too!!)

Thanks all!

Unless the files are 25FPS dead on, the box seems to be unable to play the files without either jumpy video or breaking up sound.

Even when files are converted (if they are 24 / 23.976 FPS - you can speed them up with a mencoder script) they may still have some lip sync, and the box doesn't seem to recognise aspect ratio correctly.

If you use a converting utility that doesn't change the speed (most work this way) but just converts from one FPS to another, you will still get the jumpy video.

I think most media players are quite good at switching totally to 24FPS or 23.976 or even 30FPS, and outputting that to HDMI which most TVs will cope with happily these days.

Samsung know of the issues and have reproduced them, so hopefully fixed in the next update in May.
