Well done to them. They seem like nice enough lads but their music isn't particularly good. Amazing how far being 5 cheeky looking boys will get you.

The majority of them can actually sing ( Liam, Zayn, Harry). Its not just about the looks for some of them.

One Direction are not even that huge in the UK at the moment.
'The Sun' is desperately trying to make out that they are some
sort of New Beatles, & it features them every day.

They can't even sing that well, & if they lost their looks
over-night, they would not even be able to keep the shallow
Fans that they do have.

Their USA success will be brief - as it was for the Bay City Rollers,
who had huge USA hype around them in 1976 & 1977 - just as their
UK Fans were losing interest. (The BCR's were big in the UK in 1974
& 1975, but, 1976 saw their UK Hits getting smaller - over-all).

There is nothing special about One Direction.

To certain extent agree with Zeus555 what's annoying is the fact that this boyband and The Wanted have done well when better Brit boybands like Take That,Blue,Busted or McFly didn't because it was the wrong time for them when America was packed with boybands or created their own US version, isn't the Jonas Brothers really just an inferior American Busted/McFly? Would actually not mind if JLS were succesfull there just for the fact they harmonise and aren't just 5 guys singing the song together.
Also agree having the first three singles go 1,3,9 isn't exactly amazing and the Sun is being ridiculous with their whole Beatles thing along with the American shows are they being paid to say that?
Expect to see a flood of American boybands much better than Big Time Rush to quickly assemble and TW and 1D will be sent home in favour of the local lads it's no mystery that all the succesfull boy bands in America are American with Brit acts resigned to one hit wonder status Take That,Five etc.
However it's good they are having a bit of success but it won't last especially in America NSYNC and Backstreet Boys were two years max at the top there as there seems to be less loyalty than here in the UK.

Boybands don't have much longevity, especially the modern age ones, everyone knows it's an image... that's why they never survive for long. Is there any boyband/pop group that has really gone on to be as big as when they started or lasted 10 years? Backstreet boys seemed pretty big when they came onto the scene... then they died down as they aged, now no one seems interested because they are over 30.

When you look at Rock bands, it's all about the music... once you're huge, that's it, you will sell out stadiums for life because people are turning up to hear the classic songs. People don't go to gigs expecting to see the Bono of 1985 or a young Mick Jagger.

The Sun, Daily Mail and other tabloids can tag One Direction the new Beatles all they like, The Beatles may of had that similar teenage girl fanbase... but they were extremely talented and the music was too good to ignore. Now unless someone is telling me that Harry Styles is the new John Lennon... they better just enjoy it while it lasts, because they have not really taken off yet already their days are numbered for as long as they keep their pretty faces.

It's funny that BTR aren't doing that well in the US, and two British groups are topping the charts so quickly.

I must say I like my pop groups but I think BTR are the worst of the lot. I mean people call 1D cheesy...

I'll give you Liam and Harry. But Zayn? I did watch X Factor dear. He's woeful.

Whether you believe it or not (I'm assuming you're in your teens, sorry if I'm wrong), though you may change your mind when you're a bit older, they're just not very good. They're just 5 lads who can sing averagely, mime ok and look pretty on camera for all their young girl fans. That's all it is. That's all it is for the vast majority of boybands.

Like I said though, they seem nice enough, and it's generally nice to see Brits do well over in the US, so good luck to them.

Not anymore, he actually has the best voice. Zayn can sing as can Liam, but the others are meh, Harry's got worse.

This kind of music aint my thing, however their songs are catchy as hell.

Was not surprised in the slightest to see what makes you beautiful win Brit Award for best single. Its a great song (for the pop genre).

They are serving a market (teenage girls mainly) and they are very good at what they do so good luck to them,

Believe it or not Zayn's vocals have improved drastically since the X Factor days. I'd say he's probably the best singer of the group now or on the same level as Liam.

That is good. I don't like them but even I have to say well done to them. 2 Brit bands making it big in the US at the same time.

Simon is encouraging bands to apply for USA X Factor this year so he believes the same but the one thing the american bands don't have that the american girls are going overboard for is believe it or not is BRIT accents Anyway we shall see.
