Which brand would you go for if you were/are looking to buy a new HDTV. Most people go for either a Panasonic or Sony BUT these can and are often outside people's budget so between Samsung and LG, which would you go for and why ?.

And for those people that have bought either of these brands, what do you think of your purchase, Are you happy with it ?.

Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks

I admit to dismissing LG out of hand, no real reason though. I looked at the Samsung 3D range and wanted to get the 60" D8000 but that was more than I was willing to spend so I bought a 55" D6530. The PQ is fantastic in both HD and 3D (don't know about SD as I haven't tuned those channels in. Sound is ok but with SRS Tru HD and Tru Dialogue enabled, I find the tv tends to vibrate too much when loud music or a score is being played from a program, so I turned them off again. Colours are vibrant.

The 3D PQ is outstanding. I didn't know what to expect when I first set it up and watched 3D for the first time. To me its more a depth thing and not things jumping out the screen at you. I mainly watched the Sky 3D channel and was quite impressed. Movie wise I watched "Avatar" and was blown away with it.

So all in all, i'm quite impressed with my purchase, although I did take out an extended warranty with D and G after reading both in these forums and others, that Samsung tv's in the past had a bad reputation for reliability.

Thanks for reading.

Out of those two it would be LG, basically because our 6yr old LG plasma has been ultra reliable.

We've been more than happy with it, cost nearly £3k at the time, it came a very close second to a Pioneer plasma in a 50" plasma test, the Pioneer was £1500 more.

Found an old review here....

Hoping our TV lasts a bit longer, keeping an eye open for OLED, which happens to be Samsung or LG.

I hope you don't think me cheeky deacon but I'd love to see a picture of your set up. It sounds quite impressive m8. OLED looks stunning doesn't it. I watched a clip of a Samsung OLED and the pq was jaw dropping.

Perhaps we could start a thread were people could post a link to a picture/photo of their home entertainment set up.

(Just started a thread called "post a link)

never had any problems with our 42" LG freesat tv thats a few years old now.

The smaller 22" tv we have is ok... But a bit unresponsive when it comes to remote control commands.

I used to buy Sony and Panasonic, but Since I got a LED tv from Samsung I have been amazed how good they are, I now have 2 tvs and a surround system just great.
