Hi - hope someone can help. i have had a SONY HD PVr for a while now, and have been really pleased with it. However I've suddenly started having problems.
It has become hit and miss wether it actually works....

I switch it on as normal, and it powers up, lights come on - but the picture doesn't come on the TV. - sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't. I've checked the cables, and changed to a different AV and doesn't help. If it does come on, and I switch to a different AV, and then back again, it's gone. Seems to help if I switch it off at the mains for a while and then back on again.

Very bizzar - anyone got any suggestions?

Assuming it's under warranty?, get in touch with where you got it from - service on those consists of replacing the entire main board.

However, I assume you're watching via HDMI? - in which case it 'could' be a TV problem as well - do you have another TV with HDMI on you could try it with?.

It can take anything from 10 to 30 seconds for the box to check what it has on the hard drive, check timers etc. before showing a picture through either an Amp or direct to a TV

Thanks for your comments - I bought it from Argos in April last year, so assume it's stil under warranty. Do I just take it back to the store? I'm also wondering wether it's the TV though, the box comes on, and it records OK, it's just not showing up on the TV, unless I switch it off at the mains and leave it for hours. It's connected via a HDMI cable, and I also have a blueray player connected via HDMI, and that is fine......

You don't have another TV with HDMI you can try?.

What make is the TV?, I've seen similar problems with a Philips one.

You might see if there's a software update for the TV then, it seems a bit coincidental that it's also a Philips - the Sony PVR I had the problem with worked fine on every other TV I tried.
