I just discovered a really fantastic singer, then realised she died aged 33 in 1971

I don't know why but I have been on Youtube looking for some good 60's tunes, and I discovered Cass Elliot (or Mama Cass)

She was like the original Adele but so very happy. One of the happiest and beautiful singers I have seen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNpx7...eature=related

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfQsn...eature=related

The radio wrongly reported she choked on a sandwich but further research it seems she died of a heart attack / maybe developed anorexia

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLOAF...eature=related

I also discovered Mariska Veris the same way why is life so fragile?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2DBcbZc3ck
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn67PEK7GQA
and her last appearence - what a voice - in her 50's shortly before her death
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csRsweTRXdU

Why is life so fragile? why are there people aged 100 in nursing homes who can't do anything for themselves and the lives of talented young people get taken? I guess they were the Whitney and Amy of the 60's. It saddens me that they never get recognition and yet some people like Pitbull etc is never off the radio because of genre's, demographics and statistics etc

Have you discovered anyone this way?

If only Mama Cass had given Karen Carpenter the ham sandwich, they'd both be alive today.

I remember when i found that Takeshi's Castle was made in the mid 1980s, and that it was probable most of the contestants and staff are now all long dead.

It feels odd watching it now, almost sad.

No-one from the 80s could possibly be still left alive.

The Mamas and Papas did some great songs that were perfect for their time.

lolwut?

Hayato Tani is still alive as is Takeshi Kitano. What about Knight Rider? you do know David Hasselhoff is still alive and well?

No-one from the 80s could possibly be still left alive.
If that was indeed the case then I've been dead for 2 years.

She has less chins.

I have always loved the music of Mama Cass, I still listen to my vinyl records of hers. 'It's getting better' was one of my favourites, although i love all her work, solo and with The Mamas and The Papas. 'Make your own kind of music' is a great song too.

I discovered her courtesy of Lost. That was the record being played when they broke into the underground bunker.

A lot of their stuff is 70s fluff and frankly embarrassing but there's some good tracks in there.

Cass Elliot is one of my favourite singers. Sadly some of her studio albums are out of print and somewhat hard to come by nowadays. I imported a few of them from Japan and they really are worth the money. My personal favourite is her 1972 self-titled album.

Karen Carpenter actually died a healthy weight, she was eating normally and had put on lots of weight, that was the problem though, it was too much too fast and her body gave up under the strain, poor thing .

"a really fantastic singer" ???

Mama Cass was/is a world wide legend!

If you like her, you may also like another legend who whilst sadly giving up with the Seekers, she is still alive and performing today.

The great Judith Durham:

And still singing LIVE in 2009

Now that's a singer! That's how to sing live X factor!
