Galaxy Note or Xperia S
Its upgrade time and I have been offered very goods deals on either the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Sony Xperia S. I know the phones are very different sizes. However spec wise they seem very close. Has anyone used either of these handsets ? Which would you recommend ?

Galaxy Note seems to be the most expensive one if you got a good deal I would get this if you don't mind the size.

My friend is having this very same dilema. He went into a phone store and just asked to look at both of them. He said that the Galaxy Note was too big (but he liked the stylus + thinness) and he said the Xperia S had a much better screen/camera but wasn't a fan of the design (especially the buttons at the bottom.
He's still deciding at the moment, but my suggestion would be to go in to a store and play with both of them. It'll help you out. Just remember though, there is no micro sd card slot or removable battery with the Xperia. |

My shiny new Xperia S turned up this afternoon and after playing with it for a couple of hours it seems like a good quality phone. The screen is very crisp and bright and the overall build quality seems pretty good although I am not sure how long the little cover on the USB port will last before it snaps off.
I have compared it to my brothers HTC Nexus and it looks like they both use the same display and perform pretty much the same. The Sony is slightly narrower than the Nexus but apart from that they are similar in size and weight. The only complaint I would have is that it is still running Android 2.3 but hopefully Sony will release an Ice Cream Sandwich update soon. |

I've got a Note - best phone I've ever had to be quite honest. The size is not an issue once you've used it for a few hours, and the display is lovely and sharp.

I would say that the Sony overall is probably the better phone some nice features. but the size of the note is very tempting for me for sky go etc. I have sg2 at mo.

Just interested. Who is the Note aimed at? Business types, designers, self - employed, students etc? Specially in terms of intended use of the S - pen.
Brother is mulling on a possible purchase... |

Brother is mulling on a possible purchase... Size isn't an issue for myself, I always have it in my pocket when I go walking and jogging using Endomondo etc Tried using an iPhone again the other day and it was just tiny in comparison, so small I could not see or even type anything - strange when I owned one for 4 years!! |

I don't fit into any criteria, just use it as a day to day mobile phone, gaming, web surfing, media social networking gadget.

Cheers. I've seen it in my local CPW and must admit it does look good. I've the S2, which is as large as I'd like to go on a mobile. Brother is considering the Sony Experia S or the Note, but I would recommend the Note due to its memory expansion, decent screen, stylus etc. Reviews on the Sony have been middling, with too many negatives. Think the Note is a better bet for anyone in a similar dilemma.
having said that don't know which I would go for given the choice, may plump for the Note just basd on size. |

Choose the most expensive one, try it, it you don't like it, sell it and buy the other one.

Hi guys.
Right, having espoused the merits of the Note, I've decided to trade up (?) to the Note as I really wanted a bigger screen for surfing, media content and ereading. So with a bit of jiggery-pokery, my kid brother will get my 4 month old, in pristine condition S2 at a bargain price, and I will take delivery of a brand new SIM free Note courtesy of Amazon tomorrow morning. Question - what do I do about my various apps? Some of the games have been paid for, while the vast majority are utilities and free. Do I have to wipe these off the S2, before I can get them on the Note (assuming I can get these on another phone)? Do I have to de-link my Google account from the S2 or something? My Gmail and Skymail accounts are on the K9 app. Appreciate pointers from anyone who's done the same thing. Cheers. |

Thanks. Hope it's that easy. I wanted to leave some apps on there, like the freebies, to save him having to download stuff again.
But if the reset is the only way to get my Google details off the phone, then guess I have to do this - I suppose I have to, so he can get his own app / purchases on it. Really looking forward to the bigger screen - will probably have to find a home for my Kindle, which I still love but found carrying it around less and less due to having books on the S2. Always been a bit of a doodler, so the S pen should come in handy. |

Probably the Experia, then. As it's a newer model, it's got a better chance of getting Jellybean (?) whereas I'm pretty sure the likes of the Galaxy S2 / Note will only see ICS.
Ergonomic / build considerations will be down to whether you can cope with a the bigger body of the 5.3" Note. That is of course its USP and reason why so many people are choosing this. I've read the Experia's build quality leaves something to be desired and is a dust magnet. The Experia will no doubt have a stunning screen, due to the Bravia technology used. On the camera front, the 12mp of the Sony wins out, but the Note uses the same excellent 8mp of the S2 - with the advantage of now being able to view pictures on the larger HD screen. The Note has a 2500mah battery, which is supposed to give about 2 days of charge with reasonable use. Eagerly looking forward to receipt of my new Note this morning but the decision, as they say, is yours. |

On the battery issue - The Moto Droid Raazr Max has a non removable battery. They have squeezed a whapping 3300mah battery in there by using all the space available which has made it impossible to make it removable. If manufacurers do this then I would be happy. |

I should not be pedantic and I can only hope you deliberately mis-spelled this to wind people up.
