Oddly it's starting to come full circle as I've noticed it becoming more popular.
It's not really my bag baby but there's certainly a resurgence of demand for it. I do think that it depends on what liver it is. We're selling lots of the 'top end' stuff, calves liver for example. The rank stuff we had to endure at school perhaps might not be part of that resurgence.

Lots of people like tripe. I've had it and quite enjoyed it.

Ox tail is coming back - I see it regularly in my local butcher and the butchery section of Victoria market in Nottingham.
I think it was banned for a while after BSE as its part of the spine.
It does seem rather expensive for what it is though

Yeah, I've seen ox tail reappearing at my local butcher too, and it's been cropping up on various cookery programmes. I agree that it seems rather expensive for what I gather used to be a cheap cut of meat.

I saw someone buying liver in Sainsburys today.

Butchers sell it too and tripe.

Coral on Scallops. 20 years ago you hardly ever saw a scallop without it's coral. Now you're lucky to find one with. My dad used to spread them on toast.

My local supermarkets , sainsbury, tesco, M&S, are not very big ones so I guess the range of produce is smaller than in the big out of town stores.........none of them sell liver

When I had a local butcher, before they closed down, I often bought lambs hearts - they were very tasty !

Tescicles can be described as sweetbreads. It's just more common to have other glands described as sweetbreads and testicles to have different names.

Then they are being wrongly described. Sweetbreads are definitely not testicles.

This was in the smaller store. ((It takes too long for me to get to the bigger one in the hills.))

You can buy liver online.

I think there are restrictions on landing scallops with coral now as the coral is the eggs for the next generation. I've heard of unscrupulous fishermen scrubbing the coral off though

I've seen a lot of these about. I think they're definitely becoming more popular and a lot of decent restaurants are including them in dishes.

I had Veal three ways in a restaurant recently that included sweetbread tempura.

OK it's not food (for some) but just wondering if 'Eyes' are still available from bona fida butchers.
50 odd years ago we had Bulls/Cows eyes to dissect at school during science lessons, never heard my kids or grand kids speak of it.

Surely the coral is part of the scallop? Its the orange bit isnt it?

I don't think they do dissection at all in schools these days - its all lifelike plastic models.

I'm pretty sure the coral is the roe (eggs) but I'm no expert

It is the orange bit anyway.

They all have it though don't they? It has to be removed once the scallop is opened.

Lamb neck is the best value cut you can get, for what is a very overpriced meat now. Great for stews, just need to trim a little of the fat. Supermarkets don't stock a lot of it, but butchers always do.

But how would they be able to tell? The scallops would have to be opened by the divers/fishermen, and wouldn't they then die?

No they haven't been wrongly described. Different countries/regions/people describe things differently, it doesn't make it right or wrong.

Hmm - you're right - I'm thinking of lobsters

Mind you we have fishing quotas that force fishermen to throw back already dead fish so I wouldnt put it past the "Powers That Be" to demand it
