Have had BB and tel with Virgin for years, and decided to give Sky a try (got tv with sky), so wrote giving notice to virgin then booked sky changeover which was date of today, even though virgin cutoff date not been sent thru yet to me, but should be last few days of the month going from when I wrote to them..
so i noticed today on 'my sky' on the site that my tel no is the same as was with virgin...

the landline is still plugged into virgin so rang my mobile and came up as home, so took it out plugged into sky socket and rang mobile again and still came up as home!!!

I tried the same thing backwards, and in the sky line the phone does not ring at all, but in the virgin one it does!!
so the incoming side is still with virgin..
So how can we have the same outgoing number with 2 different companies???

Nothing to prevent this happening during a changeover. Sky have set the line up with the number that is being transfered and it seems that the transfer has not completed on the Virgin side. When it does everything will sort itself out. The remaining bit of the transfer is out of Sky's hands - as it needs to be done by Virgin.

Obviously only ONE destination can be active for INCOMING calls.
