They also ripped the beginning of Summer Nights, from Grease for one of their tracks. Blatant. Total loss of respect.

I was playing one over and another and they're pretty similar. Pretty sure the opening chords of the 1D song sound like the opening of a Taylor Swift song as well.

Looool what a mess. Stolen songs that they can't even sing. Just goes to show how far looks can take you these days.

They dont even sound a like I wish people would just realize that they don't have to crictise the people they don't like, I mean I hate Gaga but i dont post every few days saying two songs are copied.

Couldn't care a less who wrote them, there's no denying that those two songs sound similar. Instrumentally they are pretty much identical (in parts). I've now just listened to a song that sounds a little like Lady Gaga's 'Hair'. I am turning this copycat record off.

Well some songwriters and producers material are similar..just look at RedOne, Dr Luke etc.

A lot of people say it sounds like Demi Lovato's Skyscraper...why because Gad also wrote that.

And Save You Tonight (1D) is RedOne produced, as is Hair.

All of RedOne's songs sound the same anyway. It's nothing to do with One Direction (or Lady Gaga). It's RedOne that should be criticized.

You could argue many songs in the charts are 'rip-offs'.

They aren't ripping anyone off. It's because the producers create similar sounding songs.

Guys you could take any song in the world and if you look hard enough you will find one similar. There are only so many chords and music notes so of course some will repeat! Sheesh

It is the same with books, There are only about 5 basic plots which get rehashed and reworded.

The thing is, 'Hair' was already a ripoff of so many past pop songs. So is 'The Edge of Glory', there were loads of songs in the '80s just like it. And, of course, 'Born This Way' is a complete ripoff of Madonna's 'Express Yourself'. Personally I think Madonna was secretly in on this, no matter how much she has slagged off Gaga...

As for the 1D song 'Taken', Toby Gad probably had no direct binvolvement with it, the 1D producers will have just adapted a new song from 'If I Were A Boy' and then asked him for permission to use it.

Yeah if you sing If I Were a Boy over it you can see the resemblance.

In fairness, they don't write or produce their songs... So I doubt they have a clue what's been nicked and what hasn't.

In the American reviews some have said that One Thing especially the Chorus is identical to Backstreet Boys I Want It That Way and again that More Than This is very similar to Backstreet Boys More Than That in lyrical content and sound.
They have said in their reviews (US) that this isn't surprising as BSB were the biggest boyband ever in America and in general worldwide and having heard both songs i can see the similarities in fact when they performed More Than This i thought it was very similar to the BSB track and not just the obvious change of last word. However on both occasions 1D fall short of the BSB songs vocally (naturally) and just as overall songs.
