Ed Sheeran gets playlisted on Radio 1Xtra basically because he has strong ties with the UK urban community. He seems to have collaborated with most famous UK rappers. And his single, You Need Me, I Don't Need You is urban-styled. His other songs though, not so much, so Radio 1Xtra probably shouldn't be playing those (The A Team, Lego House, etc.).”
That's what I mean. Play the influenced ones, but not pop. They did the same for Bruno Mars. Think of it as this, regardless of connections, would you expect to hear Drunk vs End of time, Otis, 212, Back to love, and a host of other urban music? No. Unfortunately, it's a very naughty R1 thing. 1xtra are playing what they're given. I'm sure its a policy order. No right minded urban DJ would spin Domino. I think they've been pushing ever so slowly into popping Pop onto urban playlists. IMO it should be a song by song basis. Otherwise it looks silly.
