Ipad Smart Covers?

Are they worth getting? They dont seem very protective(though I doubt they're supposed to be) and they really arent cheap, when I first saw one I was thinking they'd be around a fiver but over £30 for a cover seems a little excessive, but are they really worth it?

I got one when I got my iPad last year. It's nice, colourful and in my view is a decent cover.

They are good, but you can get third-party equivalents cheaper, including ones which also cover the rear of the iPad.

I use one and it's quite nice, worth the money.

I got a smart cover from ebay for a fiver, and its great as it covers the back as well

Some cheap smart covers on Amazon as well.

A mate of mine just got an iPad 2 and bought a smart cover from the Apple store for it, costing him £30. When I saw it I asked "where's the rest of it?" lol his only covers the front and sticks on the side by a magnet.

I wouldn't want one to cove the back tbh, it kills the design IMO.

I have a Smart Cover on my iPad 2, with a 3rd party shell covering the back. I'm too worried about scratching to leave it naked.

Yeah, I like my ipad back to be covered in scratches

I doesn't scratch that easily, I have had mine a year and have no noticeable scratches on the back.

If you are less careful with your gadgets but one of those thin transparent covers to avoid scratches.

IMO smart covers aren't that good and not worth the £30+ Apple charge for them.

had one on my ipad 2 for about 3 months and in that time the edges were starting to fray and it inside was really getting grubby

Has anyone found the cover leaving stripy marks on the screen itself? A friend of mine showed me his and the screen looked a mess. If you good "ipad smart cover marks on screen" it seems to be a common problem, exactly the thing it's supposed to prevent.

I bought a leather smart cover off eBay today for £7 obviously not genuine, but will report back to let you know on quality etc, but thought for £7 it was worth the risk..

I also have the smart cover from Apple for my ipad. I love the cover for what it does, but as mentioned above, the only disadvantage is that it does leave stripey lines on the screen. I just use a micro fibre cloth every now and then to remove.

They are over priced in my opinion especially £59 for a leather one. I sold my blue PVC one and bought an orange one cheap the other day for £17 it's a genuine Apple one. They are handy as a stand but the protection is limited if you drop your iPad on concrete for example the smart cover isnt going to make a lot of difference.

The iPad isn't fragile though my dad dropped mine in the street and it had a tiny bash at the bottom left hand corner. I was mad but Apple replaced it at the genius bar.

The stripes are the gaps between the four panels: the fabric backing actually cleans the screen, the stripes are where it doesn't! I do like the way the magnets activate the standby when you open and close, pretty neat design.

I bought a tecknet one and its great, stands up very well in many angles, shuts off magnetically and protects and looks beautiful, and only costs a tenner

The iPad 1 cover is good for me as my iPad gets dropped on the floor all the time and the cover gives good edge protection. When I get the 3 I will have to go for a third party cover to get the same protection - hopefully they also work to unlock it.

This was a great case. A lot of people moaned about it but it worked so well for me. Two years later and my iPad 1 still looks brand new, not one scratch. The case does look a bit worn now though!

My experience is the same. My iPad 1 is flawless condition. The original iPad 1 case is still doing it's job but looking quite a bit worse for wear now though!
