oh wow, didn't matt look fabulously wonderful, might of had a mopchop, but the stubble got left behind
Alex looked good in her dress costume.

But what a dull, boring guest, didn't seem in the slightest bit interested in any of the vts, oh i don't little walking in the national parks, i prefer to be at home doing something else, it was a very difficult interview for matt and alex.
They cheered themselves up with having a joke and chat with joe c instead.

It's The One Show from 6th September with guest Martin Shaw (who was much better and more relaxed second time round as a guest). We have VTs on the police auctions of stolen goods (Simon Boseman), more Scottish sea lochs (John Sergeant), the Wearelucky scheme (Lucy Siegel), and the new London sewer drilling (Marty Jopson).

Well, I can only say Lotus that I thoroughly agree with you about tonight's offering..... and definitely What a beautiful man on OS, looking fantastic in his jacket, waistcoat and white shirt combo.... Mr B looked completely gorgeous and I got very bothered and unnecessary. As did all the bakerettes.....a stunned silence overtook us as he suddenly appeared on our screens, utterly delectable and thudworthy in the extreme! We will probably never know why Sarah L was grumpy....although, if truth be told, I wasn't really listening to her much for obvious reasons.

Nice to see you back on here Cass.....so sorry to hear about OH. Hope he won't need to be off work for too long. Shame about all the extra shifts you've been given when you are so busy and trying to see your dad as well, what do they want......blood ? But I know you love your work but you are entitled to your leave.....

I like Martin Shaw but have never really been able to get into George Gently. Wish they'd resurrect Judge John Deed. I think that was by far his best role.

Morning all. Matt's outfit yesterday was lovely, it looked like a new waistcoat as it was a different grey to others he has worn. Combined with the Prince of Wales check tie and dark suit it was a stylish look (did really need black, rather than brown, shoes though ). It is amusing that they togged Alex up in a full Victorian outfit and Matt just wore his own clothes to almost the same effect (all he needed was a watch chain in order to look like a Victorian gentleman). I guess he wanted to keep her company whilst she dressed up.

The guest was pretty useless though. The Paradise is a big new drama for the BBC - designed to rival the Downton Abbey's of this world (not the sort of show I watch but gets a lot of viewers). Sarah Lancashire should have done a better job of promoting the show that I'm sure she was paid very well to appear in. As it is, from twitter comments, her attitude actually seemed to put some people off watching the programme. Not something that will have gone down well with the BBC I feel. I suspect Matt and Alex were slightly distracted last night because they had the director yelling in their ear about trying to get something out of the guest - I noticed at one point they went straight from one VT to another probably to give them some breathing room.

Ratings were pretty good for the show though 3.98m (calculated at 20.66% share).

She really did succeed in creating a no-win situation for all concerned with her attitude, didn't she. Even the way she was dressed was bizarre. Like she was making a deliberate statement to be different to the others. It was quite a shock when the camera switched from Matt and Alex to her, and she was dressed in a frumpy jumper and skirt. The presenters both looked a little uncomfortable I thought (and this nothing to do with their clothes - with or without corsets), the show she's promoting could well lose viewers because of her, and her own reputation will have suffered. I quite like her as an actress, but like her a little less now. I'm still trying to figure out what was going on exactly, but as someone on twitter told me I shouldn't over-analyze. All the same I'm going to watch the show back and do a little analyzing.

Back to earth today with a thud after last nights little offering

I agree Rita that I found her choice of outfit for a TV interview bizarre as well.Thought she was going to do the weekly shop. Most females like to dress up for these things.Not sure that I am over enthused for this drama now either although I wont see it tonight anyway - things to do people to see.

I do think it's easy to over-analyse every tiny little thing - that can lead to the sort of stuff we had during Strictly 2010 when half of the main board thought Aliona & Matt hated each other, and the other half were posting on the gossip boards about how they were a bit too close for Mrs B's comfort... (And we actually get the same stuff about Alex & Matt now - some people online think they have no chemistry, others think they have too much...)

I think there's a lot of different possibilities for last night from a diva-ish strop by Sarah Lancashire because she didn't want to do the costume drama thing, to just being a bit under the weather. It's unlikely we'll ever know for certain but whatever it was I think that a tricky guest was the only reason Matt & Alex were a little hesitant/awkward

Oh yes. I wasn't thinking/suggesting there was any other reason. The guest makes a huge difference to the whole mood of the show, whatever the content. I'm adding Sarah's name to my list of difficult Brits because people often say guests from across The Pond are awkward but I can think of quite a few Brits who have been poor communicators too - and a few US guests who've been great - Steve Martin, Ted Danson and Dolly Parton spring to mind

Well I've watched last night's TOS again - a very difficult thing to do without getting totally distracted by how gorgeous Matt looked. Difficult to see anything else really. Anyway, Sarah didn't seem nearly as bad second time around. She didn't say or do anything to make you think there was anything wrong. I think she just might be an aloof sort of person, and that's just the way she is. Not everyone is sparkling and bouncy after all. Or maybe she was totally smitten by Matt and thudded. That would be understandable. It's a common enough problem after all I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Afternoon, got a couple of minutes to myself

Sarah L was on Breakfast tv, only caught a glimpse and she seemed pretty much the same as last night. Not an over-enthusiastic type of person, a bit smiley but not excessive....think because of her role in Coronation St (when she was a blowsy barmaid with a ready smile) and I've danced along with her keep fit vid (sad I know ) I tend to think of her as someone with a bit more oomph! I think her frumpy attire didn't help last night, no effort was made Perhaps she was slightly unwell (give her the benefit of the doubt ) However, tonight it's The Nolans who will be glitzy, warm, funny, and will get Matt dancing (we wish!) Perhaps tonight he'll don the jumpsuit.....

Still getting over how Matt dazzled us last night with a) his fab outfit and b) his handsome face....I was just shocked, but in the right way He had had a 'good' haircut...the sideburns were still lurking there but not so defined.

What a difference 4 good talkative guest make with a the girls chatting and joining in. Well done to them trying to get to stay over at matts with the bad weather just incase they can't get up north a lovely happy show.

Lovely Matt tonight in his blue shirt, excellent happy guests in the form of the Nolan sisters...have got to catch the last 10minutes of that...but what I saw was extremely jolly with laughs and banter between them and Alex and Matt! The sisters said that if they got stuck in London because of the rain, they might have to stay at Matt's........well, they would say that wouldn't they. Haha!

Hello – Has anyone seen Natalie’s dress in their promo pic? It reminds me of Aliona’s Ballroom Tango dress that she wore on SCD live tour 2011. I think the girls’ dresses (design and colour) look similar despite Aliona dress has a waistband.

I saw a pic of Aliona and Jonny on Daily Fail website. They look good; I mean better than I expected, good body contact and she seems working on his posture. It’s a good sign …his banana hands would now be corrected by Aliona but I don’t understand why their pic was taken in the car park instead of in the training room. Ok....ok....I know strictly couples may need to train somewhere when they are away from strictly training rooms; understandably, like she and Matt did their trainings in some strangest places across the country but it made me wonder why was it had to be taken in the car park. Who has persuaded them to strike a pose for a photo? Was it Daily Fail PR stunt? I don’t think they need Daily Fail promoting them. Well, enough said about Fail.

Actually I'd probably say it was an Aliona PR stunt . She's very good at getting herself photographed on beaches in little bikinis and she always looks good when doing so. good luck to her on that - I think it's probably better that she controls her own publicity than having to suffer media intrusion

And the dress does look similar. They have reused wardrobe before now so it wouldn't surprise me if it was a reworked dress

That's excellent. May be the Nolans or may be the extremely bad weather keeping people in - though that of course would not affect the percentage share. Let's hope it stays good tonight. It's the New Tricks brigade I think.

PS. Good to see this thread keeping its head above water with all the new interest in appreciation threads

Let's hope it was the Daily Fail and not a promotional stunt from SCD proper. If the latter that bodes ill for the chances of the VTs etc. returning to normality after last year's daft offerings.

Pretty good show tonight. Having a lot of guests on can help as it evens out the quiet/grumpy guest problem. As I said on twitter I liked everyone other than Dennis Waterman who is probably the poorest actor of the New Tricks cast and isn't a particularly nice person. He had a bit of a defensive/grumpy attitude on the show but being next to Denis Lawson balanced that out pretty well.
