But I am sure tonight's edition will be delightful. As it says in my DM Weekend Mag..."What a view" underneath the picture of Matt and Meg.

And I think we concur with that statement.

Daughters and grandchildren came with me to see my Mum this afternoon which cheered her up enormously. And it was nice to get out of the house.

And I agree with you Rita, the pics of the goaty edition of CF were all fantastic. Matt looks adorable and handsome throughout the whole prog (as usual) but looked particularly radiant.....and the goat knew it as well.

Off to tend to the patient as he has been neglected this afternoon.....and I want to prepare myself for 7 o'clock ”

Ahh. So you're a glass half-full kind of person then! It takes both kinds.

Nice to have you back posting with some regularity SG, and good to hear things are calming down a bit for you.

I really like that shirt

Spent part of the day watching our family of blackbirds, dad is amazing always out looking for food and feeding the baby, but its a gigantic baby almost as big as his dad, so funny earlier he came running out from under the trees to get some food from his dad, and he ran staright into the pond
but landed on the lily pad, he flapped so much he took off!

Im a tad worried as although he can fly, he spends alot of time on the ground and next doors cats might get him, hope not, will try to keep them away, maybe the dogs will have to stand guard!!

I know Wogan gets a lot of stick but he has had an incredibly long running career at the BBC in the field of light entertainment - he's been hugely popular in ratings terms on radio and TV and did essentially popularise the big charity fund raising event.

Interestingly the reason I mentioned both of those names is tweets over the past year from random people comparing Matt to both of them. It was the presenter Tim Lovejoy who commented that Matt's voice reminded him of Wogan's and I knew what he meant - it's mellow and relaxing. And recently after Attenborough basically said he was retiring a couple of people thought Matt would be good at the job (I think those tweets came just after the 'Helen's Polar Challenge' show did a good job of illustrating Matt's voiceover skills).

After the Rickshaw Challenge last year I couldn't help imagining Matt presenting Children in Need - I think he'd be great at it (and I have a sneaky suspicion that Wogan imagined that too and may not have liked the idea )

Yes, I can imagine Wogan not liking the idea of someone replacing him - same as Brucie really. I do like Wogan (and Brucie for that matter) though. It's understandable they don't like the idea of being replaced. The only reason I said I don't put him in the same league as David Attenborough is because they are very different types. I actually think Wogan would be easier to replace than Attenborough. I've been dreading him going for years and now it's actually happening was thinking I don't really want to see any more nature programmes. Matt popping into my mind was quite a eureka moment.

Evening all

Matt had some grotty weather doing some of the mountain biking. He may of had his legs out, but everything else was wrapped up well, it looked very cold and windy where they were. it was on the short side, a couple of minutes in the cafe, a pint cup of tea sounds fine to me and he paid for it, and 5-6 mins at the end,he had a little go on some of the simpler jumps, but mountain biker who fell of his bike down the side of the cliff was it was good to see him up and about after such a nasty fall.

It's a short clip week next sunday but we get to see danny again

Cass your baby blackbird is very lucky, it is sweet watching the babies squeaking for food and being feed.
Star it's good to hear things are seetling down and you've been able to sort bits out even it has been another busy day in the stargazer house

Ooh Sky, I had forgotten about beardy Matt! It was a bit of a shock when I saw your pics! Although I think I liked the beard at the time, I do prefer his light stubble he usually has nowadays!

Tonight, I did the wrong thing by saying to OH, I'll just shut my eyes for a couple of minutes....an hour later.... It's all catching up on me.

Turned out I missed some of the end of CF as I had to take younger daughter to the station. Will try and catch up with what I missed later. It appears it was a Matt-lite CF but as long as we got to see him for a few minutes, that's fine by me! And I think we are still in recovery from last week's high jinks on barges.

Thanks KK for latest screencaps, very nice, although I wasn't that fussed with the shirt. Still think he looks best in the sludgey darker colours but we all have our preferences. The odd waistcoat wouldn't go amiss.

Thanks to all again for their good wishes for the situation in the SG homestead. Still many long weeks of recuperation ahead for OH but at least we've managed to lower the pain relief. It's just me that needs it now.

CCM to all MBlovers out there, have good sleeps everyone, night night. xx

Morning all - booriful if frosty start to the day. Am expecting le deluge tomorrow.

Thanks Sky - like SG the beard came as a startling reminder of what had been. Must admit do prefer the stubble in retrospect but like the ahem unbottonage.

Yes matt lite I admit but the weather looks as if it may have had a contributory factor - thick mist on mountainsides is not good.

Woe is me cos I won't see any T1S live this week busy working and bodding so may have a catch up on Sat,. Will dive in and out of DS if I have time and rely on you lovely ladies to keep me up to date with proceedings

KK thanks for the new nut - will make time to watch before I bod off af 12.45 to work..

Emma - Matts voice is a real presenters voice - smooth as silk, emotive when needed. I could see him in role of CIN presenter at some time in the future but Sir Terry will stay for some time I would think as have to agree he has made an excellent job of it but the Beeb must be searching for natural successors for both him and Sir David when the time is right

May be back later (much much later) if visitor leaves

5.76m (24.5%) for CF last night. Figure very slightly down on last week, but the more important percentage is up!

See Friday's TOS got 3.7m - quite poor that, but holiday time I suppose.

It's absolutely freezing over here. Feels like the middle of winter, honestly

Rating wasn't bad given it was up against the FA Cup semi-final which hit an 8m peak at 7:30pm. Be interesting to see how next weeks show does - it's short and a clip show but could rate highly as people switch on early for The Voice

Ratings are in for the week of 2nd-8th April
*
Countryfile
From the Brecon & Monmouth Canal: 12/30 – 5.43m
*
The One Show
Wednesday – Matt Lucas: 19/30 – 4.57m
Monday – Bernard Cribbins: 20/30 – 4.55m
Tuesday – Sir Trevor McDonald: 26/30 – 4.26m
Thursday – Guy Pearce: 29/30 – 4.04m

Countryfile was a bit lower than usual as it was Easter Sunday and I suspect a lot of people were still out and about at 7pm. I don’t believe Countryfile for a lot of people is a show you record and watch later – they catch it when it’s on or not at all. The One Show ratings are solid with Thursday showing the guest issue – not many people really know or care about Guy Pearce. I think they actually do better with middle-of-the-road British guests a lot of the time

Good afternoon!

Good ratings in general for CF and the One Show....although the figures for the Easter Sunday CF were lower (lots of people visiting relatives, day trips, sight-seeing etc. etc.) those of a discerning nature were only too happy to see Mr B engaging with barges. The beeb must be extremely happy with these programmes with the FBB at the helm (quite literally in that edition of CF!)

Sorry to hear that you won't be around this week at 7, Lotus. And it's always difficult to catch up as there's more deliciousness served up the following evening.

Your baby blackbirds look very cute Cass. I don't think I've ever heard of fledglings being guarded by dogs. There's always a first in the land of bakerettes.

Nice day here, still haven't had me walk but time rushes on and I have some appointments to make and some preparation work to complete. Fell off to sleep after lunch, not a good move as woken with a headache.

Best move on, as a certain charming presenter would say....must be ready for this evening's thudathon....bye for now......

Think I made an erroneous statement earlier on. This week's Countryfile wasn't slightly lower than Easter weekend - it was slightly higher. More importantly the percentage was higher.

Good figures all round I think. TT does seem to be holding its own - except for Fridays.

Meant to comment earlier but no time. They are adorable. How long until you can stop guarding them from the cats. One of our number has a cat that catches rabbits - which is normally a dog's duty I think. So be careful your dogs don't get any funny ideas

Didn't realize he had an accent. I hadn't noticed it last time believe it or not. Matt seems to like him, and bigged him up quite a bit I think. I can't believe a fishing programme is as popular as they pretended it is. Although maybe that's me projecting as I can't really see the interest.

Nice TT anyway. Nice shirt. I wonder if they have problems finding questions for the guests as they're repeated. Thinking of something new to ask them about themselves I mean, other than talking about their latest project.

Robson's accent was missing last time around too but he's essentially a Geordie and used to have an accent more pronounced than Matt's more mellow "County Durham" when he was younger. And now it's disappeared

And the fishing programme actually does pretty well for channel 5 - it's bizarrely popular! But I think they were actually all having a bit of a laugh at the idea of it being huge rather than being entirely serious

Night night to all....didn't see all of tonight's OS but saw enough of Matt to keep me happy. Especially in the grey shirt he wore! I am falling very much behind in my FBB viewing but there may be a window of opportunity tomorrow.

Accents are funny things, used to work for a man many years ago who spoke 'received pronounciation' as I think it is called nowadays, i.e. a standard 'southern' accent, but when talking to his business cronies would suddenly turn on his Scottish accent. Being a naive young gel, I wondered what it was all about!

No doubt It is probably helpful for RG to be able to switch accents and he is an actor after all!

So it's Paul O'Grady tomorrow, must be a lean time of year over at TV Centre as we've had all these guests before.

CCM to all the lovely posters and readers on here. Sweet dreams of stubble and grey shirts and biceps and...well you get the picture. xx

I was thinking about fishing on the way to work, and thinking it must be just about the only sport where you never, ever see women involved, only to be put right by a woman at work who has just come back from a long weekend - fishing! Some sort of convention. She told me it's an enormously popular sport, and quite a few women fish. There is in fact a TV channel devoted to it. So there you are - you live and learn.

I have a friend from Yorkshire who cannot stand the actor who is in New Tricks (can't think of his name I'm afraid) because he dropped his Yorkshire accent in favour of a southern one. But as SG said with Robson Green, he is an actor after all, and would never have found that much work with his original accent. Maybe Robson Green is not finding that much work and thought it was time to broaden his possibilities by going neutral.
